this thread is the corresponding poll to THIS thread. you can vote here, which of the offered features (of which most ARE possible to implement) shall be given high priority (the numbers correspond with the numbers in that thread). mind you though, that the developers might not give a damn about this poll's results. but MAYBE they are influenced by it. of course we need a lot of people to vote, as there are a LOT of options to choose from.
what are - from your point of view (be it developer, new user, photographer) the must-have features CHDK should sport in the near future? note that not all entries are actual features, you can still vote on it to be done though. i will limit the maximum number of votes to 15, which is about a quarter of the whole list. choose wisely, young jedi.

oh, of course you can use this thread to openly discuss the "dev" thread, but please stick to the topic somehow.

regards, PhoX

thread link again: click me!

edit: limit raised to 20

edit: IMPORTANT: the developers (people who can code for chdk, not neccessarily only "the official devs") might be influenced by the outcome of this poll. some will ignore it. some will use it and concentrate on the "most sought after" features. if some feature gets a 0% rating this doesnt mean the feature is not important, it still will be on the todo list. please dont use the poll/the list as some kind of "pressure",as in "hey mister dev xyz, the poll clearly showed we need a weather forecast in chdk, and yet you still waste time on that stupid usb protocol". the list was compiled on my own, it doesnt neccessarily reflect the opinions of the other forum members (though i think it matches most of their thoughts). please keep that in mind.
i do hope we soon have the bugtracker, though it will be a tedious job cutting/pasting some/most of my text into that Wink

a little summary here:

poll is open for about a week. 28 people voted (including me). nearly 500 people read the poll thread. almost 2000 people read the original thread. somewhere along this path people forget to vote or they simply dont care Big Grin
what i dont know though: maybe people with less than 5 posts maybe are not allowed to cast votes.

PhyrePhox, i was one of the 28 - but i voted very late:

Reading this marvelous post for non-native english speakers like me needs a lot of time (retrace also) !

thanks for your input (and the compliment, as i am no native english speaker myself Big Grin).
well i am not disappointed about the low number of votes, i'm just more or less puzzled about it. maybe it is the fact that no "official dev" really commented on it yet. anyhow, we can safely assume that poll items that gather/tally more than 5% of the votes are indeed "needed" by the community, or would be appreciated (of course all the other items as well).

Hi Guys!

I would LOVE to poll, but the only thing I see is 68 checkboxes without any feature description outline :-(

Could this be the reason for such a low participation?

well, normally you should find this poll through the other thread. the other thread is stickified. in this thread you can find what to vote on/for. i provided the link to the original thread twice in the first post:
this thread is the corresponding poll to THIS thread.

edit: i seperated the poll from the thread because i didnt want to clutter up the original thread. and the poll options are only numbers because you can see much faster where are more votes etc (also it would have been one helluva work copying & pasting the descriptions into the poll).

PhyrePhoX, ok - no it's clear to me...so newbies also can poll from their first post on, but they probably will get striked down by the dimension of your post  Grin

I guess 1 week is not enough for such a big poll, we should alow more time.
I think these results are already very useful, but I guess they could be much better if more people vote.

IMO Hobelbank got a point. Lazy users (like me) would like to have the description on the check box. Yes I know it is a pain in the axe because you have to introduce spaces to line up the results, I understand you Phyrephox.

One idea is to set up one of those free surveys and may be it is easier for the user to vote. I made a quick example here:

hm, not a bad idea at all.  but if you add the whole description to the poll options, the poll will explode in size. so there has got to be some kind of small summary on each poll option. either way, it will be a lot of work - much more work compared to have two seperate threads, one with numbers and one with the description of each number Wink
and yes, you are right about that 1 week is not enough.
i suspect though that the few "peaks" (more than 5% of the votes) will be "flattened" or smoothed out during next weeks, creating a result that will tell us: all mentioned features are needed Wink

yes, documentation is important. but also important is a good IDE to work in/with. i for one use an IDE which opens the most important files automatically on startup. the files i most likely "fiddle" with to code new features or something. you will get the hang of it. in fact, chdk is compatible with so many cameras BECAUSE there are so many files. the whole project could be squeezed into 3 files, but you will not be able to "follow the programs flow" in this case, believe me Wink
