Having trouble getting the version out of SD980

I created a file in the root folder, called ver.req
Turned on the camera in the Play mode. With this camera, you just press the play button when the camera is off, and it turns on.
Then I press Set (middle button) and keep it pressed, then press Disp (which is right under it, where the macro focus button would be on the A570is). No version is displayed, and the file stays empty.

Any ideas?

- try also putting a vers.req
- try combinations of Func/Set with other keys
- try a fresh SD disk format too, never hurts ;)

No luck..
Tried the same card in my A570IS and worked fine, won't work with ver.req or vers.req on my SD980 :/ I tried Func and other buttons (but there aren't many) and didn't work either :/
Any other ideas?

pretty strange ... sensor / video specs / cam generation are like SX 200IS which does react to ver.req,

(using Func + DOWN) so maybe it's wiki page: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/SX200IS can give you ideas ?

Hmm...
What happens when you hold the Func button down on the SX200? On the SD980, after holding it down for a few seconds, it starts displaying the clock.. Does it do that on other cameras too?
Maybe Canon changed something? This is a very new camera, btw. So who knows..

This is normal for recent canons.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Hi,
on the sx200 if you hold the down key in play mode, with an image displayed, it shows
"Erase ?       Cancel    Erase"
With no image the down key does nothing.

To get the version data you press func and "roll" your finger down onto the "down" key.
It takes a bit of practice, or it did for me.
Good luck, OldGit

Sorry, I forgot to add
In record and play modes the func key shows the clock as normal.

My down button is disp, but if I press it (without pressing func) it just changes the display info on the last image.
If I press the func button twice, it goes into the erase image stuff.

This is the first (I think) Canon camera with a touch screen, maybe this is why? I tried everything I could think of.. I wonder if the SD940, the 'little sister' of the SD980 works.
