Camera choice for starting out?
« on: 14 / January / 2012, 12:00:15 »
I don't have a CHDK-capable camera yet.

Can I get some suggestions on a model to buy to get started?

Here's what I need:

0) Well supported by CHDK
1) Inexpensive (the cheaper the better)
2) Easily available (in the US)
3) Can handle remote shutter
4) Can handle remote power

Any other features are just gravy.

I've seen the model list here, but I'm unable to decipher the cost and availability issues without searching one-by-one.

A used, popular model I might find on ebay would be acceptable, but I'd prefer to buy new.

Thanks for any suggestions.

The A495 fits the bill - $60 online - and its well supported.   However, Canon has stopped selling it - replacing it with cameras like the A800.  Porting efforts for some of the new cameras are underway but with CHDK,  there is no schedule.

Thanks!  I found a refurbished one through Sears with free shipping at $59.

Look forward to tinkering with it!
