Simple tool to get Canon firmware version

Hi !

Having read ewavr's advice here on how to get the firmware version with Exiftool, I decided to make a small GUI for it.
Quote
- uses Exiftool 8.038.07 (included in SFX archive)  edit: updated in v. 1.1
- multi input (FileSelect box, type, or drag 'n drop)
- shows full camera name and version
- ignores non-Canon JPG

Available here:  Link:        CameraVersion 1.1  (2.6 MB) removed, see update below
                      Contains: CameraVersion.exe (executable), CameraVersion.au3 (source) and exiftool.exe
How to:   Just point it to where you want it to unpack (you can also unpack manually with 7-zip)
More:      See attached screenshot see update for pix

Let me know what you think, especially if you find bugs or have ideas for improvement

have fun,

wim

PS: tested on JPG's from ixus70 and ixus870

edit 30-06-10: expired link should now work again

edit 07-08-10: Update available here: (removed, see below for new version)
      differences with version 1.1:
  • latest version of exiftool included (8.27)
  • added link to exiftool site for easy updating
  • shows current exiftool version in title bar

[edit 25-11-10: added live & removed dead links - updated Wiki link as well]
edit 02-01-11: modified to support hex coded firmware versions  CameraVersion 1.3
thanks fe50 and Jzigchdk (see here)

Thanks, msl !

By the way, I recently found out that drop.io sites only allow 1000 downloads per file,
so maybe it will be easier for you to put a copy on your server.
That's only a suggestion though - if it gets "too popular" I'll see what i can do about it.

cheers,

wim

Yes, I know the drop.io problem. So I already put a copy on http://drop.io/chdk_de

Again a very good tool.
Yes, indeed, thx wim !

I created a wiki article for this: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CameraVersion
(I suggest to have the DL link for the latest version always in the first post...)
