Lower resolution/higher dynamic range. Can pixel binning be done on the S3IS?

You can just check the manual  of the camera. If it has something like a ISO 3200 mode you do "pixel binning".
I won't be too optimistic on the results though noise will be very visible. A better but more time consuming process is to create a couple of exposures and to use a software such as PhotoAcute which will combine either to one exposure with less noise or more images with a higher resolution.

If you'd like to achieve higher dynamic range you can also try to capture raws or to use multiple exposures to combine with a HDR software.
