yeah i know xnview and imagemagick, will take ages though. thanks :)
problem is i wanna use just one program (virtualdub :D). there IS a plugin, that doesnt read the exif timestamps though :(

What plugin is that, what you have? I have "AddFrameNumber / AddTimestamp v0.6.1" and "alidator" that puts time in video, but not the way i want, and no exif-support.

i was referring to that one, yes. it's weird nobody wrote such a plugin yet. maybe i will do it. haha just kidding.
seriously, perhaps i will do it. due to having chdk on my cams, i will create tons of timelapes in the future, and such a plugin for virtualdub would be great.

Sure ?

Ok, maybe rendering the whole video again in Virtualdub...but to "stamp" the date from the EXIF data, after setting up XNView (with just a few mouse clicks) it should be done automatically within 20-30 minutes for ~ 4000 images, enough time for a pizza & a cold beer

success!
xnview is a nice tool, i knew that before. but the "insert string" function is great!
there are some pitfalls though: first, make sure you select a HUGE font (in the video i used like 70), because the default selected font is like 9pt - which you wont see in the video (i guess it depends on the size of the images!!!). plus, whatever you change in the convert options, xnview forgets when you open the dialog next time. but in the end i managed to pull together a video that finally has a timestamp in it. thanks for the tips!

maybe some other uses of timestamp could be considered besides putting the time ad date on a picture
for instants : a name , a place , a holiday, whatever you want ...
it could also be interesting to have a choice of exif information ingraved for the situtations you dont' have a pc around but you still can view the picture
the text could be very small somewhere at the edge of the picture (rawversion) or large enough to be conserved during processing into jpg - author's choice
maybe  i am just dreaming ..... ::)
