High Speed Waterdrop Pics

these are some water drop pics, real shutter speed unknown but had the over ride set to 1/100,000th of a second and flash set to on (flash seems to be sync'd at these high shutter speeds amazingly) (so far fastest confirmed speed for my model has been 1/10,000th of a second). this was in a well lit room (3 halogen bulbs above me) just pointing at the faucet. camera used was a Canon Powershot SD1000 loaded with AllBest build #34.

nice! recently  i got a macro lens and i'm gonna try some shots with water drops too. by the way, somebody's gotta clean those Calcium carbonate stains

nope that was the original lense on the SD1000, no filters or anything on the end.

That's just amazing!
I have a TX-1 with an incredible lens on it That I just can't wait to do stuff like this with.
I don't know if anyone will make a program for it. Your photos make me want to go buy an SD1000 just so I can install the firmware.

Well I also played a bit with CHDK, the tap and the sink...
Made a little poll to decide the best of them on a friend's site.

But one problem... I can't seem to get the focus right each time... how you guys get the focus right ?
Oh and also I patched all but the first one with the AutoCHDKPatcher and can't understand how the second pic ended with 1/25s exposure :/

Thanks for your answer, but what I don't get with the flash freezing thinggy is what is happening with the remaining time without flash then ?
Cause it would be like a black or very dark frame added to the pic ? Then I don't really get how it could turn to be looking good with a dark frame added with an overexposed drop pic ?
Or maybe I'm still missing how it works there ?

Btw the first pic I had to edit a bit because it was too dark, but others were only cropped and resized.

About the focus, if I MF I just can't see when the focus is good, and AF seems to take the bottom of the sink. By the way I read yesterday some guy saying I could MF on my hand being where the water would fall, I need to try that I think.
Hope I can improve on that cause I have the feeling the blurs come more from a focus problem.

I used a syringe for my drops and focused manually to the numbers on it.
Af can also be used the same way, set to center-AF and hold the shutter-half-way to focus then make drops and press it fully.
I like the manual-focus better.

Amazing waterdropts, Coutts!

Would you mind giving us the actual settings? I am using the Allbest#50 on my SD1000 and even though I set the shutterspeed to 1/100K I am only getting 1/1500 according to the preview. I am shooting in manual mode so as to activate the flash. Everything is totally blanched out.

at that speed it shouldnt be blanched out, my guess is that the speed isnt used at all. do you have in display the override tv settings?
