Hello,

oftentimes I don't agree how my camera measures when I look at the Y and the RGB histogram (I love these, many DSLRs don't have them ...).
But - either I shoot in Manual mode, having to adjust shutter and time all the time from the scratch, no Auto-ISO available ... or

I go to AV, set it to F/4,5 for sharpest images, and select +/- EV with up/down buttons.

What would it do better than today?
- I don't have to go into the Func menu
- I see the changes in the histogram at once (like in manual), which is great for metering correctly
- The Up / Down buttons don't have any function yet, so no problem I suppose

What does CHDK have to do?
- when in AV modus, if clicked "up", then set EV+1/3
- when in AV modus, if clicked "down", then set EV-1/3

--> I think this could add a lot of quality to the photos, look here: Expose Right

Can anyone put this into the next Allbest build please?

Thanks to everyone making CHDK possible!

Hi obitus.

Just one question. I never use EV so may be I'm not getting the idea.

Why don't you use Manual mode instead of AV?
That way you can set F4,5 and then play with the shutter speed so you can "expose to the right".

Either I'm misunderstanding or this is exactly what you want to do. You don't have to go into Func menu and you'll se the changes in the histogram.

Hello wontolla,

yes, it is perfectly possible in M mode, no doubt. This is what I do today.
But I find I am sometimes quite slow putting the right exposure when light changes.

My idea was to take the "suggestion" from the camera and work it from there. It is possible to use AV and then the EV +/- but maybe it would be a good thing to have it without having to go into the FUNC menu. That way you can see what's happening in the histogram "in live".

You see what I mean / anybody else can relate to this?

Hello,

I am not really an expert on this, but I think it's "just" remapping a button-press to a function. If the EV+/- can be implemented upon the button-press is another question.

Do we have to adress or kindly ask someone if he/she can implement this?

A "snap-shooter" I am not.

Me too.

Now I understand it, will try to implement that, as my sd200 port makes me silly1.
Edit: First Search for how zoom-key-mf is done failed.
Edit2: AH, that's done in platform/generic/kbd.c and core/kbd.c .

BTW. Is there a small screenshot function? I think that could be quite useful for testing.

I was just about to start a thread with this feature request Smiley
I really don't know what was Canon thinking. To have a compact camera with not nearly enough buttons for all the often used functions, and then not to use two of the few buttons it has... pure stupidity.
Histogram, zebra, overrides.. they are all nice and sometimes very useful functions but I do not think there is another modification with such a great impact on everyday shooting as making the EV more easy to use, specially now that we have a fantastic live Histogram.

So, pretty please... Smiley

One question, though.
Currently, at list on my S3IS, EV correction is not reflected on the LCD, unless the shutter is either half-pressed or I am in the EV correction Function menu. That means that I have to half-press the shutter to check the histogram. Would it be possible to make Av/Tv modes act like M mode where the LCD fatefully reflects the set exposure/aperture?

I know, but it's currently meaningful only in the M mode.
If the built in (Canon) histogram is turned on then the LCD does reflect the set EV correction value (though, the histogram is still not visible while changing the EV value!).
I don't know would it be possible to trick the camera into the 'histogram' mode without actually displaying the histogram.
