yvesson Hej, It's a thread about shooting birds using motion detection. I used my A540 back then, never used motion detection with any other camera. These are old shots I have reuploaded in 2021, the links in the threads were all dead, just can't put the right picture where it belongs.
Racenviper Can you explain just a little on what you did? I'm looking for a method similar that I use on my Pentax DSLR as a "Focus Trap" Manual set the focus distance and wait for an object to come in the focus range. Take the picture.
yvesson Hej, Well sorry I was kinda too happy so I didn't put on any explanation... I just put some old bread with the camera in auto mode with flash disabled and macro mode enabled, cam being around 20cm from the bread. So I started the motion detection script : threshold : 10 delay : 5 Didn't change any other setting from the script. So this is mostly the script which did the trick, I hadn't to set much things, tested the script with my hand. Of course I set the power saving from the camera off, and the LCD off with CHDK set to "script". So I don't think anything I did is usable with a DSLR. The only trick is not to be there for the bird gets close to the cam without flying away, so the cam must work by itself. ^^
yvesson Hej, The only thing I will try and improve next time is to limit the shots taken without birds (must be a bit too sensible atm).
fudgey You could also use a mask to disable detection in the area where there is motion you don't want to detect. In your examples that would probably be the top left corner with plants moving in the wind.
yvesson Hej, Well thanks for the tips. There are also a lot of flies there, not sure if they can make my camera shoot though. This is not a that big issue though, cause I don't let the camera there for so long, I'm too eager to check if there are birds shots, and if my settings were okej. ^^ Now it's there closer from the bread at forced F8.0. I also increased a bit the threshold to 15.
yvesson Hej, Oh thanks but here is quiet about eagles ^^ I fear more those birds who hit trees very fast, I think my camera wouldn't like that. ^^ Oh and for now I won't change much more settings... This morning I increased the threshold to 15 and it took way less pics without bird (in fact only when I placed and removed the cam). Got 2 more series of the same kinda bird, will upload then this afternoon, or tonight prolly (well I noticed one or two very good pic, no need to upload all of them to have the same kinda pic). The last serie the bird came too close (I suppose) and then is blurry (not sure if it's to close for focus or too close = moving too fast, could have been a cloud too at this time increasing the shutter speed). But my method reallly works well and I wouldn't have thought I could get a 6-7 pic serie within 10 mins ^^ Oh and it took pic every 3-4s which is fine, I may make an animated gif or something out of the blurry serie.
yvesson Hej, New bird came ! Didn't change the settings much, though here I let f2.8 forced and seems enough. ISO 100 (cloudy here :/) Just this bird is shy compared to blue tit and needed more days to came.
yvesson Barney Fife I'd be shy too around a bunch of blue tits. (C'mon, *someone* had to say that. 😁 ) Hej, Some great tits also came, but the pics not too good/sharp. :/ But my friend's site got great tits already, but didn't require CHDK (check chainmail bra galeries pic 7 or so. ^^).
PhyrePhoX actually its funny that the native english speaking dude gets to make the joke about birds who are called like, well, something totally different 😁 to me as a native german speaking dude, it was new up to now that these birds are called tits in english. so i thought you americans are quiete used to that kinda jokes by now 😁
mrproper So why are your tits, I mean birds so out of focus? Is the script taking focus before shooting, or is it using the start focus?
