My guess is if a
M3 or
M10 Camera is returned to canon for a warranty repair,
or just for a service repair this (recorded) data is then available to canon who
may then have a valid reason to NOT do a free warranty repair, or to then void
free service repairs.

And Also any Non-Canon Hardware such as Ef Compatible Canon Lenses.
Note #1:- The
M3 also has made provision for operating the
M3 without a Lens
i.e. For, Legacy Lenses, Legacy bellows, Microscopes, Pin-Hole Lens, etc.
Note #2:- My
M3 works OK with my collection of Legacy Lenses and even with
a Nikon Legacy Lens attached to the
M3 via a Speed-Booster.
