Okay, that's clear at least.
How large is the card? It needs to be 32GB or less, otherwise it's more complicated to set up.

Well, something is still screwed at this point.
The filesystem on card needs to be FAT32. But it is FAT32 by default.
It's not clear whether the BOOTDISK signature is correctly written on the card (Does MacBoot confirm that it's on the card?).
If the filesystem and bootflag are ok, the only thing that's needed are the CHDK files, including DISKBOOT.BIN in card root.

I guess you could try low level formatting the card in camera then do the installation with STICK again...

You can enter and exit the so-called ALT mode of CHDK by pressing the playback button momentarily. When in ALT mode, press MENU to enter the CHDK menu. Navigate with the directional buttons, use SET to execute the menu item that is highlighted. Find the 3 settings I mentioned at the start of our conversation and set them. And that's it.

I just put the switch up to put in write mode and when i powered on again there is no chdk install.
What can i do if i want to use the camera to record and use Chdk ?

The camera will not load CHDK if you don't lock the card. When CHDK is running, the card's lock switch is masked, so the camera thinks the card is unlocked.
Just try recording with CHDK loaded and you'll see.

No, the M3 port does not support that starting method.
You need to use the "bootable SD card" method described here. STICK can help making a bootable card.

I keep seeing that beginners find it difficult to install CHDK. Is it not possible to create a simple PS.FI2 (for cams without PS.FI2) that checks whether the card is FAT32 and makes the card bootable?
Then you could install CHDK without another tool.

I spent more than twenty hours (especially late at night !) and was so frustrated..
Thanks also to all who have worked on that project !
Now second step is finding a decent but affordable capture hdmi card to run on my good old macbook (cause look like the usb connection doesn't do the trick)
All this was done to be able giving my classes online and try to work.
By the way if you have some advices/links to use my M3 in a visioconf/stream (in zoom) it would it'll make my day.

It looks like the camera outputs interlaced signal, you'll need a hardware that accepts such signal. See this post where an incompatible and a compatible device is named.

For capture device, recent and popular gear are out of stock (elgato 4k for example)
I found a Blackmagic ultra studio mini recorder (second hand) that i plan to order.
It has a lightning port.
I have a mac book pro (mid 2012) with no Usb3.
I checked also a magewell Hdmi capture (also second hand) wich is only a little more expensive and received very good reviews.
But the magewell is a Usb3 device (comptible with Usb2) so i'm afraid the usb2 would be too slow for a video stream.
I have to make a quick decision.
If someone has experience with that it woul be great to share
All advices welcome.....

Enabling FI2 boot on DIGIC 6 cameras requires a nontrivial workaround. Even with the workaround, some PowerShots were found to have issues following FI2 boot.

Wow this is awesome. I was about to buy an M6 Mark II, so this has saved me a lot of money. Thanks Devs! Now I have clean hdmi out on rec mode and screen off disabled, so works perfectly as a webcam with my Elgato camlink. Cheers.

Edit: one thing I noticed is that when I set the disable LCD off to always, when I turn off the camera and turn back on again, that is still set to always but doesn't work. The screen turns off at set interval. I have to set it back to never, go back out of the menus, then go back in and set to always, then it sticks.

It may be sufficient to just enter and exit alt after starting up.

Since this has now come up more than once, maybe it would be worth adding code to delay the initial call.
