Save RAW files in DNG format instead of RAW

Where can be changed the Copyright Exif Tag?
Any photo I take came with a unknow "n" char in this tag.

I look for this tag in the source code but I didn't find it.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

I think the version number is wrong. 8.10 is the same as 8.1, so after 8.9 should be 9.0.

No, not really. I'm currently running linux 2.6.26.4 - notice the 26?

(Although i must admit, those chdk version numbers are kinda bogus imho. Everyone is referring to the revision number anyway in case of a bug report or a question .. )

That's understandable if we were going from 8.9 to 8.91, it still works mathematically. But, 8.10 is no different, mathematically, than 8.1. So, I believe we should be at 8.9.

This is the case if we were using fractional numbers for version. But in most software projects the decimal point is not used as mathematical symbol, but to distinguish between major and minor version and in some cases - build number. So we have in fact notation in this form:

m.n

where m is decimal number for major version number and n is decimal number representing minor version number.

If you are using Windows, type ver in a command prompt and you can see how Microsoft uses three numbers to represent the version - <major>.<minor>.<build>:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]

I hope this explains well version notations 😀

Added to trunk in #639 (also a650, a720: 'dng' instead of 'cr2').
Also changed length of empty string in 'imagedescription' and 'copyright' tags to 1.

(for developers: tiff engine now can handle strings with odd length automatically).

Is there any tool available that can convert an uncompressed DNG to a compressed DNG?
Now, I am think about the advantages of shooting in DNG.
The uncompressed DNG is not smaller than the raw format.
It is slower (but acceptable).
It can save me time to convert raw to DNG, but I will run the compression tool anyway.

I have some issue with the exif tags.

Usually I use GeoSetter for Windows to add the gps information to my shots. If you are interested in this tool, you can get it from:

The problem is that this tool recognizes the DNG raw files created by CHDK like valid pictures (this is a great improvement from the original Raws from CHDK that never where recognized), but the Date Taken tag is not found in the dng file.

In order to solve this, I have to copy the date taken from the corresponding jpeg file.

Can be a problem with defines in camera.h or in the dng_hdr.c sources?

May I receive any suggestion to solve this?

wow, that was fast, but the same screenshot in my computer shows no date information. And as you can see the corresponding jpeg file has the right taken date.

Could be my Regional Settings (Chile)?

Your file has .CRW extension, ewavr's is .DNG. Have you tried renaming it DNG?

Wait a minute!
I changed manually the extension of the CRW file to DNG and now the Geosetter takes all the Exif data...

What is the reason?

Now I have to set the dng extension in the chdk menu. I hope not to lose the CRW transfer under Camera Window (Canon software).

The Camera Window program doesn't show the CRW files, but when you transfer the jpeg files, it transfer too the corresponding CRW files.

I'll test it in obut 6 hours, when I came back to my home.

I supposed to be working right now... 🤣

Yes, some programs fails, if extension of dng file is 'crw'.
(attached screenshots for Faststone image viewer, file is the same).

edit: even for dng extension, CHDK version is 0.8.1 😀
edit2: I don't know how CameraWindow transfers 'dng' files.
But I know magic command to mass rename crw to dng (for Windows): ren *.crw *.dng 😉

😁 You are kidding me, but it is Ok.

I know that I can change the extension to all the dng files, it is not a big deal. 😎
I'll play with this when I came back to home tonight.

Well,

I tested changing to 'dng' extension in CHDK menu.
The dng files are not transfered by the Camera Window program, and they are not showed by the windows explorer 😉

The only way to take it from camera was to use my card reader. The Exif tags of the dng files where readed ok by Geosetter and Photoshop.

It still doesn't show the Owners Name data that came in the jpegs.

I think that I'll keep the CRW extension and after the trasfer, I'll change the extension using the "magic trick" teached by ewavr.. 🤣
