Could people using the powershot 590IS try out the above matrix and let me know if it is any better?

8k in bad pixels isn't all that great but I get the same results. 8k is still a small percentage. The powershot cameras are great but the CCDs seem pretty noisy. I've learned to accept it as a part of a unique package. On low isos shots look great, but 400 is awfully noisy. I used to have a Minolta DiMage z3 that shot totally noise free shots at 400, but then again it was also a $400 camera in its day and it only had 3.2 megapixels. Still wish I had that camera....

Anyways, the noise you see in RAW is there because the jpegs your camera produces have the noise removed via the firmware. I don't know what else you mean. The raws should have more noise but should also be much cleaner. You can use photoshop or lightroom to help remove the noise. A lot of people like raw therapee too. You definitely want to remove the bad pixels. Even in normal daylight they will show up as too dark or whatnot.

Please upload any original jpeg and jpeg from RAW file with this matrix. It it will good enough, I replace with it old one in dng4ps2 software.

Doh! Deleted my test shots off the card this morning without thinking.....

Well I can process the test shots the person above posted with the new matrix in dng4ps2, and in doing so I get the same result. Good colors. Let me know what you think.

Ok. I played with the matrix and did some more calibration and found it to be more off than I thought! Sorry about that. I got 18 zones to register in another test shot and the green was still askew. Part of the problem is the high noise present even at iso 80. I think I might try this experiment with some of the calibration charts we have at work. Anyways, I decided to select part of the border out of desperation and somehow that bit of grey locked everything back in a bit. It says that the errors are over 10%, but this is the best matrix I've made I think, and may be the best case scenario for raw on this camera. It took quite a few tries to get an image clean enough to use, so good luck!

Dng4ps2 can't read dng files for creating color matrix. It reads only RAW files without any meta information

After doing some shooting this week and finally importing the results this morning, I am very happy with my results. I think that the raws look a lot better than the jpegs due to there being more dynamic range as well. If anything the results are somewhat warmer than the jpeg, which I am completely ok with because I feel that in comparison, the jpegs seem somewhat cold and lifeless colorwise. Look at these two shots. Happy with the results? The matrix I came up with is a definite improvement at least....

I can't calculate color matrix for SX10, results are always poop (on stage 1).

Because current version of dng4ps2 cannot handle such RAWs, I converted it to 10 bit (converter).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Finally I did it avoiding some squares (brown and violet). Of course, result is not brilliant.

How you guys shoot with 12bit RAW? My CHDK version shoots in 10bit. 😐:

that depends on the sensor, actually - chdk cant magically add some bits. the sx10, sd990, sd890, and sd790 are some examples for cams with a 12bit sensor.

yup, got it... a fellow 970 user took them, cause my cam was gone for a while... took new images with my cam, but same problem. anyway, the sx10 and ixus970 sensors seem to be extremely similar, if not identical.
surely some more experienced photographer can come up with "better" images from the 970, but i am not sure that it would help...

For current SX10 matrix, reds are oversaturated (like to many other cameras: SX100, A720, S5IS).
With this matrix, reds are slightly undersaturated.
Violet colors in both matrix are more violet than in jpeg, but they (in dng) are more similar to the real colors (due to suppression of chromatic aberrations in camera jpeg ?).

Attached see the image I quickly did with it, and your sample pic. It shows the color matrix it calculated, I suspect it could be used for our purpose as well. Just I didn't have time to look into it yet. Either the values need to be ordered correctly, or the matrix has to be inversed for the transformation... Suspect that a value like 107.07 would be 1.0707 in "our" terms... that would make sense, judging from the scale of them.
