That option is already there.
set the flash to "off" in the INFO menu. the AF assist beam will not be touched by this.

hi,
i haven't really tried the fw hack yet, but it seems like great work and i'm going to try it out. one of the main reasons i was looking for it was easier custom wb setting.
from what i understand, i always have to take picture before i set wb. could it be done automatically?
i mean something like "press wb and then * buttons" and the camera would 1.)take picture 2.)set custom wb 3.)delete picture
and then possibly shift picture (name) counter by -1.
on compact canon camera i'm used to set custom wb without taking any picture at all, but since it has live view it is completly different story...
crazyklaus
you have to take the picture yourself, but thats not really hard is it? it doesn't have to be nice or even in focus.
after you took it we have a shorcut that will use the last pic on the card as a reference for the custom wb. (press down for WB select menu, then press direct print)
you can also set a color temperature WB with the hack.
grepe
yes, i read entire thread and i know about this shortcut for setting wb. it was maybe just a little suggestion to save a few button presses on an operation that is done too often (doing custom wb is really worth it - i find that if i want good looking pictures it can save hours of post processing time).
thank you anyway!

@cyrustam
Great work! I love your eAEB function with up to 41 pictures, much more i'll ever need.
But the 'time lapse' only works for intervals 1s + 2s. MilanC has improved his code and in the last version from crazyklaus it works like a charm:
Maybe you could update the time lapse code.
@all
Thanks to all who helped to modify the firmware. It's amazing and i've bought another 350D - just in case...

For those who run into the problem mentioned several pages back where loading the new firmware results in just the orange light being lit with no blue light at all, the problem for me was that the card was formatted FAT32. When I changed it to FAT16, it worked like a charm.
Feature request:
What I miss most from my P&S is the timer functions. You've sort of addressed this already with the intervalometer, but what's missing is the initial delay. I like to set the camera up for a group portrait, hit go, and then go and jump in the picture and let the camera take several shots so that everyone looks nice in at least one of them.
I'll take a look at the source after I get some time, but if you could add some sort of timer feature like this, that would be nice.

it could. but I have tried something very similar and failed. I tried to change flash exposure compensation between shots to do a flash exposure bracketing but it didn't quite work.
hi, crazyklaus
Could you add a function to extend the 'exposure compensation' from +-2.0EV to +-6.7EV?
I just want to single shot at -3.0 or -4.0EV somtime , but don't need exposure bracketing to take 3 shots.
Thanx!

hello everyone,
i've recently discovered chdk and I was really eager to use the new options supplied by chdk on my 350D.
Unfortunately, after trying with extreme precision all steps in the guides I am still unable to make it work. Like someone said on one of these forums: I used to be good at things like this. Well, not any more!!!
It seems my problem is not being able to enable the boot-from-card feature on my camera.
I've done all the steps in the guide again and again, but I cannot get the BLUE LED to light for the life of me... I don't even know where the blue light is, as I have NEVER seen it lit. I could surely use some help here, so if anyone knows what could be the problem with my camera I would GREATLY appreciate any pointers.
The only MISTAKE i might have done was attempting to attempt to apply the scanled.fir whe I was still at firmware 1.0.1. However, nothing bad happened so I managed to update to 1.0.3 but now, as described above NO BLUE LED ever!! I've repeated the process over and over again, including reinstalling 1.0.3 firmware and taking out both batteries and still nothing.
PLEASE PRETTY PLEASE HELP!!!
I am using a 350D camera, an Sandisk Extreme II 1 Gb CF card and Cardtricks144. The CF is definitely formated FAT and managed to get it to have BOOT ON, as reported by CardTricks itself. I have used each and every autoexec.bin designed for 350D. However, is seems my problem is the scanled.fir step....
Otm
Hi radoo,
did you update the firmware1.0.3 with the scanled.fir after you reinstalled the 1.0.3. For the scanled.fir there is no need to have a bootable card - only for the autoexec.bin.
The blue LED "lives" in the switch for the displaylight.
Lucky you, that you didn't brick your camera when you've updated the wrong version.
radoo
Indeed Otm, I also tried with the scanled.fir operation after I updated the 1.0.3 firmware. However, the blue led was always off, despite any operation I tried.
Is there any other operation that I can try with the camera to make the blue led flash, cause maybe my blue led was dead ever since I bought the camera. I don't recall ever seeing it on...
Any other ideas? I am willing to try just about anything to make it work... my main camera is a 7D, so temporarily bricking the 350D would not be too much of a problem...

I see you did some debuging, I was too lazy to install the stuff needed to recompile the stuff. I will get to it no later than the weekend and get back to you with the results.
I've seen somewhere in the forums that someone simply recompiled the whole stuff with NO Modifications and then it simply worked. However i think the problem was with the firmware itself, as he probably got the booting part right...
If all fails I will take my 350d to an authorized repair shop and see if they can figure out if something is wrong or out of the ordinary with my camera.
If anyone has any other advice or just ideas please feel free to throw them at us, it seems I am not the only one with this issue...

Hi thanks for this great features. I just want to know if it is possible to choose which features will be available whenever you click on the INFO button, say i don't need some of them i would just like to incorporate spot metering, ISO, extended AEB bracketing and shutter count and totally omitting some other features. How am I going to do that?
Thanks in advance!!

you need to download the gcc346.zip first
then load the newest code (I'll be posting something later)
copy the directory with the code into the myproject directory, make your settings in the file user_settings.txt, run build.bat and copy the resulting autoexec.bat to your card
crazyklaus
new version with +-6 stops exposure compensation via the info menu as requested
I noticed that the remaining picture count display doesn't work right but don't know yet what causes this bug. Has anybody else got the same problem? please post here (I expect that this is caused by the hack and everybody has it but I don't know for sure)

crazyklaus,
c'mon man, you are my last hope, could you have a look at my issue described a few posts above and see if you have ANY idea on what to try...
I'm really willing to try any crazy dangerous stuff on my 350d to make it work with chdk...
thanks in advance...

sorry, I really have no idea what to try. I don't know much about this firmware stuff.
You should got to the beginning of the 400D thread and try to ask some of the guys there who discovered how to load own code into the 400D/350D in the first place. I think these are the real firmware experts.

Thanks for the reply. I downloaded the files gcc346.zip and also the last code and im really stuck. I don't know what I am doing (hahaha) and i have no idea what it is. If you could give me some more detailed instructions or if I can request maybe you can do it for me (if It's ok it will be much appreciated) The only features I needed are: ISO, Spot metering, safety shift, shutter count display and extended AEB. thanks
crazyklaus
I didn't describe it so detailed because I have already done that countless times, you just have to read the thread 😉
but if you're really stuck it's no problem at all to build what you request. do you need the shortcuts? I would recommend you to have the color temp white balance feature built in additionally, if you have a speedlite flash with focus assist beam the 'no flash' option, too.
crazyklaus
and, I forgot to ask, in what order do you want the menu entries to be?
