Does anyone else's sx20's shutter speed not go over 1 second in aperture priority mode? At first I thought the problem was related with chdk, but it turned it turned it occurred without chdk. I was taking bracketed shots in my low light room and I noticed two of the pictures always had a 1 second shutter speed. Even without bracketing, the maximum I could get in aperture priority mode was 1 second. This is only a problem with low light situations seeing as taking pictures in daylight doesn't require more than 1 second.

I was reading about Override shutter speed value, but I'm not exactly sure if that exactly helps.

When metered, the slowest shutter the camera will set itself to is 1s. Manually you can set it up to 15s. It isn't plainly documented in the manual, but on p 173 of my copy, the specifications listing for shutter speed sort of hints at it. A bit of trial and error confirmed it for me.

@acid2000: Thank you for your job. New beta seems to work better. Besides of screeen refresh issue, i have following problem: i cant get the DNG images through USB to my PC because it does not shows it. If i put the card in my cardreader it does.

Yeah CHDK doesn't support that in PTP mode. Might happen in the future though.

Zebra is almost working, RAM issue causing a crash but almost there.

Screen refresh still causing an issue though.

good evening,
I have unsucessfully tried to install CHDK on my SX20 fw 1.02b. SD cards of different size, different speed, different brand. Always the same result:
- unable to manually boot via firmware update (no "firmware update" option available)
- able to boot using the write-protect but:
- the splash screen is displayed at power on even if it seems to flash a few times and then stays displayed
- able to pop up a menu and browse a few lines. Then the SX20 hangs.
- it is possible to restart the process switching the camera off and then on again.
To check the whole install process I have installed the (appropriate) version of CHDK on the S3 camera belonging to my father: success, as expected!
According to the observed behavior my feeling is that more than one "1.02b" version could exists. Quite a bit strange, from a QA standpoint at least but...
This long post just to ask if someone had already observed such a kind of behavior.
On my side I will try to go deeper on the problem as soon as possible.

I haven't seen all of the problems you described. I noticed that there wasn't a 'firmware update' option, but since I setup my SDHC card for autoboot I wasn't concerned. So far I've only noticed good things with the last upload by Acid2000 (GREAT Job so far!!!).

In order to help others that might be considering testing the beta, I'm including the process I used to setup and start testing.

First download Acid2000's last update to your computer - Do NOT unzip, just download.

Although I've been only using 8G SDHC cards in my camera before this, I read that it was best to use a 4G card for CHDK instead, so I purchased a SanDisk 4G SDHC card from the local Walmart ($15) and set it up using the latest CardTricks v1.44 and the following YouTube video:

Be sure to use the downloaded zip file by Acid2000 (Don't go to the internet web site). Be sure to include the last step, locking the SDHC card. The video isn't of the highest quality but it is accurate. The formatting takes quite awhile, but everything worked perfectly!

After the initial CHDK splash appears, just press the button to take a photo half-way and you are ready.

Today I installed the beta on my 1.02b SX20 using a generic MicroCenter 8Gb card partitioned to a 16meg boot partition with the balance of the card set as a Fat32 partition. Other than the display update problems, this latest beta seems to work on my 1.02b camera 😁

I'll do my best to test the features out, although I don't use all of them, but it will give me an opportunity to learn about them.

I have not tested much of it other than installing Fudgey's Motion Detection Script which works well on my A630 and my wife's SX110IS. I was able to photograph my hand moving in front of the camera along with a wadded up piece of paper dropped in front of the lens. I hope to test it a little more tomorrow with some bird shots and possibly some lightning shots on Thursday since storms are supposed be moving into the area.

The one thing that I found is that the shot preview needs to be turned off for motion detection grid to display when the script is running, but that may be related to the screen update issues, or it may be the default behavior of the script. I'll have to compare it to the our other Canon cameras because I just don't remember how it worked before.

I also hope to experiment with some of the time lapse scripts in the upcoming days to see how they work.

Thanks for the hard work on this 1.02b version Acid2000 and thanks to the rest of the CHDK programmers.

acid, I downloaded your latest update. I'm working with 2 separate 8GB cards - both SanDisk Ultras.

For this update, I used SDMINSTE to create 2 partitions. I copied the SX10 files to the larger partition first, then swapped and formatted the 2MB boot partition. I then installed CHDK using CardTricks.

Now I am able to access the Grids, and other files from the SX10 files.

I suspect that I will also have to load any scripts onto the larger partition, which is only visible if I swap them using SDMINSTE program.

I would like to see a new version for 100f so that the rotation issue and maybe others are fixed. Is there someone who can compile a current CHDK port for that firmware?

Hey acid..I got this working finally. Don't ask me how. I was playing and rearranging and do not know what I did but finally got it working. No longer hangs...creates DNG and superfine. Is a little slow writing to the card, but I suspect that is the card itself.
I had used SDMINSTE for some work and CardTricks for others and even found that using the uncompressed files via CardTricks works better...
Like I said...no idea which of these things did the trick and don't know how long it will last, but it is working perfectly now.

I took some photos with and without ISO overide, in max and min limits
and there is no difference between 10 and 80, or 12800 and 1600 (in overide menu i can adjust 8000 but it prints 12800 in exif and there is no difference with iso 1600)
max of iso in overide, is like 1600, and min is like 80 in normal mode,
even I cant use iso 3200 in chdk
whats the problem? any idea?

This all sounds normal to me. CHDK ISO overrides don't normally let you go much (if at all) beyond the canon settings, they just let you have more control of it. The ISO3200 mode (or HIGH ISO on some cameras) is completely separate from regular ISO settings.
