I have localy changed the "swap partitions" option.

The idea is: Use different partitions with different or same chdk version and swap between them in the camera.

New features are:
* "swap partitions" works now with up to 4 partitions.
* Every swap selects the next partition. (reboot activates the change)
* the memory free space indicator now has a prefix with the active partition number to see what partition is active.
for Example: 3:345MB means active partition is 3 with 345 MB free.

Todo:
* In menu "swap partition" you can select directly the partition number you want and with "funcset" the camera reboots with this partition.
* show "partition name" not number.
* you can configure if you want to see the partition number in "free space"-Prefix or not.

Possible Configurations: (Examples)
* 8GB SD-Karte: 2 partitions with 4 GB (FAT16)
* 16GB SD-Karte: 4 partitions with 4 GB (FAT16)
* 8GB SD-KArte: 1 "boot"-partition n MB (FAT16), 1 partition 6GB (FAT32) und 1 partition with the rest (FAT16)
* ...

Possible use cases
* one partition with the last stable chdk versions, one with a special version, one with the german chdk, ...
* Themes: partition 1 for holliday-pictures, partition 2 for garden-pictures, partition 3 for a local event (birthday),...
* ...

I have tried some configurations. Works fine. 😀

Do you think this is a feature who needs someone? What is your opinion? Other ideas? Bugs?...

This is - almost - normal. It is stated in the CHDK User Guide that SX10 turns on into playback mode and you need to switch it into record mode the way you described. Since the SX20 is very similar to the SX10 (and the firmware port itself is also based on the SX10's), this is expected behavior. However, there should be a way to turn the camera on directly into record mode by holding the ON/OFF button for 1 sec according to the manual. This method does not seem to work, so for now you always have to take the hop through playback mode.

ad. motion capture: neszt and jan have done some tests for the motion capture speed, while SkyWalker9 made a small collection of tested and working scripts for a previous release (see post on May/20). It should work.

I hope you'll enjoy using CHDK. It really makes an already good camera even better. However, please don't post it on other websites just yet. A few small issues still need resolving, so I'd prefer to keep it at one place where I can easily change the reference if the binary gets updated. I'm not sure why people would have problems with mediafire.

Sure ..( the only reason I mentioned other sites was that mediafire's public pages ( if you don't have an account with them ..I suppose that's the page I got from your link ) are very very heavily loaded with moving ads and stuff that eat CPU cycles and really slows up older machines ..it can take some people ages to actually get to see the download link and the machine seems "frozen" ..I wasn't sure if you personally had to use media fire or if you had somewhere else you could put it that wasn't going to involve you paying for bandwidth or something ..hence my offer ..but I hear you 😀..best all in one place so you can update and tweak ) ...

Actualy I wasn't quite clear enough in what I said about the "switch on" proceedure ..my apologies ..

You can switch on the camera normally ( with the on /off button ..like you would normally into "record" ) and CHDK boots from card ..you see the "splash-screen" and hear the "chime" ..but then it "sits" saying "no image" and black screen . and the lens doesnt move ..but if you then just half press the shutter button it all comes to life and into record mode ..display, lens, the whole works 😀)

I tested in my sx20 1.02C and works, except when i try to save in raw, say error when i try to choose DNG format and send a message like "can't load badpixel.bin" but the images are saved in the card like raw. Then, i can copy the raw .cr2 or .crw from my card but i cant open it (PS CS5 and UFraw). i'm doing something wrong? or is just the version of my camera?

and there is an explanation of how to run the script for bad pixels in the notes at around page 60 ? I think ( bear in mind that if you convert from CHDK raw to DNG in camera it means that the time in between shots gets longer to allow for the processing ..can be better to shoot raw and jpeg and then convert the raw files with DNG4PS-2 page here http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/DNG4PS-2 ..the google link has the file ..and recently in this thread I think ? .. someone posted a reg addition to make it work with SX20 )

Thanks Lghost!, now, when I save in DNG can read it in lightroom, cameraraw and UFRaw but still without read the .crw o .cr2 files. I will try to make it work with DNG4PS-2.

I did some tests with a newer GCC (4.5.1 RC) and I got some interesting results.

The motivation came when I read through the list of resolved issues in the bugtracker for 4.5.1. I noticed that there was a long-standing bug (since 4.3) that caused code bloat in the generated binaries for the ARM platform, but for this version it has been fixed. So I gave it a try and got some nice results.

I followed the guide on http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Gcc433 to prepare 4.5.1RC for the arm-elf platform and the instructions work without any modifications. After that, I could compile chdk, there were no code changes necessary, so the migration is really easy. The best of all, I confirm that the new version produces smaller code.

DISKBOOT.bin on gcc 4.4.0: 242,065 Bytes
DISKBOOT.bin on gcc 4.5.1: 239,281 Bytes

That is a 2,7KByte win! As good as leaving out a module or two from CHDK! I tested it on my camera and it works perfectly, no issues found yet with the newer compiler. I used binutils 2.20.1. I think I'll post it to the chdk_shell thread too to suggest upgrading.

I did some tests, there is still some little & rare bugs (freeze, strange behaviour), but scripting is ok, fonts, languages, & display stuff too. Everything is ok on overrides & settings....

Though, I will restart my work on "c" version on the UltimA work. I hope this week a real & fully 1.02c will be available.

Reyalp, fe50! Can you add the 1.00f version to the trunk, if the testers reports that 1.00f has the same functionality as 1.02b?

I just downloaded the latest 1.00f FW version and so far I report that, regarding Tv, Av and ISO, overrides are OK. However any quality override does not work at all. Am I doing something wrong or is it a bug???

I keep testing other feature and report any bugs

I am happy to announce that I have a port of 1.02D (beta). The games are deactivated. It seems to work fine, but I have only done very few tests (playback, image, movie, zebra, DNG, badpixel.lua work fine), so please test. Based on acid2000's 1.02b and trunk 913.

I have the version CHDK 0.9.9-913 for 1.00F and it is not very stable. Few time I had some lockups and had to reset the camera but I can't really pin-point when and how did that happen.

What is most annoying is that simetimes when goind "<-back" from a menu to the parent menu the whole menu is lost and I have to open the menus once again.

I had trouble to open the raw images with regular dcraw supplied by ubuntu 10.04 but I finally did it with a custom new build dcraw from sources (version 9.03).

Also I don't know how to override the limit for longer exposure - it stays on 15 seconds.

Everything else seems to work.

Also I am interested if there is some possibility to display the exact value that is set for the manual focus because the manual focus scale is not really precise, or maybe input a precise value?

Nope, not yet, but I will try this tonight. I still have some conversion to finish, I'll published once my work is over.

@asthro: I see you are basing 1.02c on 1.02d. I will make some last-minute changes this evening and then upload the source so that you have a little less work or can do some verification.

Please tell me if you find anything suspicious, it might of course be something specific for 1.02c, or it might be something I left out by mistake and I need to correct it.
For me it works perfectly, except some rare random crashes only when zebra and dng are both enabled. Even then I cannot reproduce it reliably. I don't know for sure but it might be memory related. I will soon post a newly built binary for everyone once I settle my problems with gcc being a bad boy.
