S95 Porting Thread

Hello guys, I'm having a problem with the scripts.

Today I wanted to make a timelapse, I have a 8GB card with 2 partitions one of 2mb which is bootalbe so I always have CHD loaded.
When I go to scripts and select"Load Script from file..." I get an error message "failed to load fselect.flt:file not found".
I've formatted the partition made it bootable copied CHDK to card several times (full version and the small one) and I get the same error.
Can someone help me ?

You need to unzip (or copy) all of the full version CHDK distribution file to the LARGE partition. The only thing you need on the small partition is the diskboot.bin file (and maybe the ps.fi2 if you want to use the firmware update booting method).

I posted the following elsewhere on CHDK but thought it might be worth posting here as well. I have an S95 (k) and note that I can not switch off the dark frame image taking.

For example, i tried only Canon RAW at 15sec and the S95 took just over 30 sec to free itself, ie about 15sec for the image and about 15sec exhibiting a 'busy' message, when I assume it was taking a dark frame.

I switched the Canon RAW over to Canon JPEG and the same result, ie just over 30 sec.

I tried the above with CHDK RAW and with and without the dark frame option. Still the same 30 sec.

Am I missing something or can't the S95 dark frame taking be switched off?

I can confirm your 'tweaks' work. I tried the dark frame off in both a Canon Raw and Canon JPEG

BTW an unrelated question: do the users settings get stored in a separate file. The reason I ask as when I change versions, I have to reset all my favorite settings and user menu. Or do I?

Yes - if you switch between builds from the stable (1.1.0) and development ( 1.2.0) branches there are different config files used.

Hi all, I have an S95 and would like to install CHDK. I've read through the first few pages of the thread and can't figure out what I need to do to set it up.
Also, the zshare links don't work for me any more, does anyone have a mirror to the binaries?

Hello, guys.
Could you help me?

I have 32Gb SD card and have created 2 partitions - fat16 and fat32 - and marked fat16 as bootable (see pic. 1) in Ubuntu with GParted. I've put CHDK archive content in the root of the fat16 and fat32 directories (see pic. 2). Unfortunately, I can't start CHDK automatically when I switch s95 on. I can do it only with Firmware update method.

What did I do wrong? How can I get CHDK autostarted?

This method will not work. The FAT16 partition need the entry 'BOOTDISK' at offset 0x40. There are many ways creating a bootable partition. Read more her: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Bootable_SD_card

Only "Mark partition bootable" from CHDK menu helped me.

Hello, my CHDK always starts S95 in preview mode and I can't find any option to change it. I prefere to start S95 just in shooting mode as I switch on it. How can I set up CHDK to do this?

That's the default behaviour with CHDK, there's no setup option to change this. To start directly in record mode, hold the power button for ~1s.

Yes.

You can to that in the battery submenu of the OSD menu.

I'd like to control an S95 using a Raspberry PI via USB, but I am having problems switching the camera into record mode by running a lua command. Here's how the ptpcam session looks like:

I found a hint that set_record does not work when the camera is connected via USB and that set_mode_usb(1) should be used instead. Yes, in modern CHDK, set_record will call switch_mode_usb automatically if USB is present, so they are expected to behave the same.

Does the screen on the camera go black when the USB is connected to the raspberry pi? If so, there is probably some other software accessing the camera, and you need to adjust the udev configuration to prevent it. See "Interactions with default software" under https://www.assembla.com/spaces/chdkptp/wiki/Install (this page is for chdkptp, but the udev stuff applies to ptpcam as well)

Ah! Thanks! Yes, it goes black indeed. Actually, I am currently testing on OSX. I guess I have to kextunload a kernel module. No clue which one however ... Thanks anyway, you put me on the right path!
