The Face Detect OFF worked for a short time, but now the chdk menu is blanking out again anyway...

I have the touch icons turned off as well, but this blanking menu seams related to motion in the cameras field of view more than other menu or osd items... 
Ok, now i can reproduce this - it's because the camera remembers the state of the display button (the OSD icons state), if this is OFF the OSD icons disappear after 5-10 seconds.

So you only have to enabled the OSD by pressing the DISP button - when OSD is visible, the cam remembers this...

The "touch button behaviour" (CHDK menu get's partially cleared when half-pressing the up/down/left/right buttons) is still not dissolved...

Exactly!! 8)  I can see fe50 has found the easiest way around, that way you don't have to switch to PlayMode and cycle the optics in and out. BUT it is still af bug! >:(

No, not yet...
Turn the "Touch Icons" in the Canon menu ON, this way only a part of the CHDK OSD gets destroyed, with touch icons OFF the green "preview" of the wheel buttons is still active and destroys the whole CHDK menu...

I think I have fixed the "Touch Icons" problem. Forum post and firmware to test, below.

Fixed touch wheel OSD overwriting CHDK menu on SD870IS

For "Touch Icons" problem I'm using the following workaround: before entering CHDK menu I enter the regular camera menu, which disables screen redraw. That way CHDK menu is not destroyed by touch icons.

Hello & welcome itias,

as mil2 posted before, this issue has been completely solved, it's now in the actual source code tree (since changeset #454), you can download the latest "ready-to-use" Autobuild (beta) version including this & many other improvements (video parameters, faster boot up...) here: Download: latest Autobuild CHDK.

Have fun with CHDK on the SD870  :)
