Irfanview gives them as 1648 x 1236 (exactly half, perhaps this is a product of how irfanview demosaics ?)
Most viewer use this by default for better performance, also Irfanview; the RAW setting with thumbnail/half size/full size view is hidden somewhere in the settings...

@reyalp,
CHDK-a590-101b-0.9.8.zip looks better.

However, I get:
- a shadow line of 4 pixels @left
- a shadow line of 7 pixels @top

@right and @bottom is perfect.
The black lines are gone.

As I said:
Note that if you wanted to crop the slightly distorted areas around the top and left,
X1 would be 16
Y1 would be 18 or so
The bottom/left seem clean all the way to the edge
Don't forget what the H stands for.

@reyalp,

In IrfanView do you have :
Options-Properties Setting->PlugIns->Load half size image (unchecked?)
That should help load the DNG better.

and yep, X1 = 16, Y1 = 18 will do.

My camera is a590is fw1.0.b. I confused in raw thread. I ready for test, if you want it.

I not expert user, but i can compile the chdk source in linux. I can build with uncomment makefile.inc a590 session with "make firzipsubcomplete". But chdk rawconvert tools not compiled, how i do? Or download link exist to binary? I  think this is very useful for me. This is a linear sensor raw data to linear 16 bit (1-10bit data 11-16bit set to zero) gray image without mosaic?

@whim

Wow, expert user has same camera. I have long time some problem with chdk. In your camera (a590is fw 1.0.1b) video mode bitrate/quality settings and key working properly? In my camera ewerything is adjustable, but no real changing video size, or focus. Thanks.

I think we've figured out the active area, the only question is whether to include the shadowed lines. Those pixels could probably be recovered with modest processing.

go in tools and type make rawconvert

It will convert 10 bit to 16 bit as you describe, if you use -noshift. Otherwise, it will shift the values left by 6 bits (easier to view in some programs)

..expert user ..
:lol :lol :lol  level of expertise and post count are not related (at least not in my case, read on ...)

About the video (from include/camera.h, ~line 500)
Quote
//#define CAM_EV_IN_VIDEO             1      // not working on 101b!!!

which sounds like something is broken in the video code (platform/a590/sub/101b/movie_rec.c)
and that's about as far as i get - my ARM assembly can only be qualified as very poor ...
Funny tidbit: in Dutch (my mother's tongue) arm means both 'arm' and 'poor' ... :D

HTH,

wim

edit: i suppose it also doesn't help that i feel that photo camera's are ergonomically totally unsuitable
       for video - i prefer my old & trusty JVC GR-DVP3E for that

A professional photographer working for the DixonBaxi ad agency said "for a lot of reasons I think the Canon EOS 5D Mark II stills camera is the best video camera available"   !

The used it to make a rebranding commercial for the American Channel 5 network.

@reyalp,
Can you compile and post one without the shadowed lines
so we can compare it to the jpgs that the A590IS produces.
I think that most people would crop those shadowed lines
if they have a choice. I wonder if the cam crops this too
before creating the jpg internally.
