I believe you  :D

FYI: In the mean time i rechecked dumping on an ixus 870 is, which also normally starts up in rec mode,
but has a 'play' button to start up in play mode.

result: start up (or try to) with PLAY button, 'regular' NewDryOS udump card: empty, zeroes only.

           start up with regular on/off button,  'regular' NewDryOS udump card: good dump.
                                                                     15K and 17K mods worked as well, the others -> zeroes only.

Hi wim,
well - i think, that's it ! -> it's the same with the SX 10, dumps only when powerd on with the power button, play don't work...nice !

@fe50

Yes, but let's first see if this solves the problem ...

while at it, i'm now playing with the memory clearing params:

pretty amazing, but i870is still dumps OK if i change jeff's memory clearing statement

     for (i = 0x1c00; i<0x30000; i+=4)  *(int*)i=0;
to
     for (i = 0x3000; i<0x30000; i+=4)  *(int*)i=0;

if the power button vs. play button doesn't solve the dumping prob, i guess this is next ...

So, I am now out of town, I'll be back on Thursday. So, we'll see, if your suggestions makes any difference and I deeply hope they will. When I am back I have whole Christmas for dumping.

Thanks for your ideas.  :)

@exander

Here's 2 more experimental udumpers for you to try when you get back.

these use available 'play' in the memory clearing, and have been tested to
dump correctly on ixus 870 is.

have fun,

wim

So, I am back home.

Tried again 15K, 17K. Tried for the first time the new two.

Not successfull.

Are there some newest sources of udumper and some info how to compile it? I downloaded udumper_2008 and WinARM package, but compiled file don't boot.

I've got a dump, don't know how it happened, but I have it.

I try to repeat.

-----------------------

I am without clue how it happened. I tried everything so I wanted to compile my own udumper, but it didn't want to boot. So I triet a fey different versions trying to figere out which version boot and which don't. In the process I just for fun opened dump file and it was there.  :o

Congrats !

Yeah, please try to repeat, i'd be interested to know which one did it ....

Should be 1 of:        -15K, -17K, 0x2000, 0x3000 (those 4 worked on NewDryOS cams i tried them on)

(the first 2 vary the zero padding, while the last 2 vary the memory clearing start address)

TIA,

wim

PS After dumping & re-inserting the card in your reader, don't forget to re-select the card
      in CardTricks before pressing 'Strings', CardTricks does not automatically detect card insertion/removal !
