Thanks GrAnd for you comment. I must admit that my photodiode is a crappy one ... may be I should bring the camera at my laboratory where I have a whole bunch of High Speed photodiode (Thorlabs, Newfocus, etc...) !

Is the file to make the blue LED flash on the SD870 posted somewhere I can get at it? My SD-870 will arrive this thursday, and I can see if I can get data from the blinker.

I have an infrared phototransistor getting fed straight into my serial port... I'm currently using it for LIRC - but I can disable LIRC for a while and use the serial connection to try to dump the firmware if that will help move things along. (The phototransistor -> serial input I have set up isn't doing any demodulation or anything... all of that is being done in the computer, so I think the LIRC receiver should work...)

Anyway - let me know if I can help. Obviously Thursday night is the absolute earliest I could do anything.

Hi,

you'll find a download link here:
http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,263.msg1610.html#msg1610

You just have to adapt the LED address to the correct one:
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/IXUS_860_IS

Or maybe mlaprise can support you with ready-to-start blinker binary?

Have fun with your new camera!

Best regards,
tommi

Hi RyeBrye,

It's good to have some help. I hope your diode will be more blue sensitive than mine. For the blinker ... I just use the S5 blinker with the  following led adresse: 0xC02200cc. It seem to work great.

Best regards,
mlaprise

What are you using for your filename?

I tried compiling my own diskboot.bin from the s5blinker, but it didn't seem to work...

I then used the files from the pre_blinker.rar to see if perhaps the file name was wrong - but none of the 3 .bin files would cause the camera to "hang" - in fact... all it would do is say "Card is locked"...

Perhaps I'm doing it wrong? I am just putting the .bin file on the root level of the memory card. Does the card have to be otherwise empty?

EDIT: I had to make the SD card bootable... There wasn't any info on how to do this for the mac, so I edited the wiki and put it in there... http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Bootable_SD_card (I guess there aren't many CHDK mac hackers out there)

Haven't tried the serial dump yet... am busy using the serial LIRC receiver for... well... LIRC

I did have an extra photo transistor around that I tried using with a mic input, but got no signal out of it. I think the photo transistor was an IR one... and I don't think the blue LED spits out any IR. :(

I'll TRY with the LIRC receiver, but since that is also a serial photo transistor, I don't know how much help it will be. Radio Shack only seems to stock IR ones, and I don't know if I can get my hands on any normal photo transistors locally... I'll have to look around a bit... :/

LIRC won't work, the basic LIRC receiver uses an IR receiver/demodulator which will only respond to 38kHz Remote Control IR signals.

How did you wire the Phototransistor?

The info here http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A430 may assist in getting it to work.

Alternatively try the schematics from here http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Firmware_Dumping

Hi RyeBrye,
If you have an old (broken) ball mouse you may be able to extract one of the phototransistors and save that wait/journey.

I've been following this thread out of interest, and am at the same place as mlaprise... I can get the light to blink but still need to find a visible sensitive receiver.

I tried the ball mouse phototransistor, but the sensitivity for the two mice I found is horrible for blue. It does work on the AF light, if only we can get it to blink.

Some detector have a good sensitivity in the blue wavelenght :

I should take a look in my university laboratory. It's weird that the SD870IS is the only one with this exotic LED adress.
