I tried it again using the manual method rather than the script, and I think it worked! It boots up automatically in locked mode, and doens't complain anymore about the card being full. However, it doesn't work at all in unlock mode (I can't find a Firmware update menu) so the next order of business is to make it not boot up automatically. I'm trying to figure out how to do that, but all the directions I find are directions for how to make it boot up automatically, not for how to disable that.

How do I make it not boot up automatically? I'd rather have my camera start up like normal and then open the CHDK when I want to use it. What I can do right now is flip the lock/unlock on the card but it would be easier if I didn't have to physically do that to change it.

Also, I am trying to figure out how to bracket shots at different exposures. I was able to get it to bracket different exposures in continuous shooting mode, but is there a way to do it with a timer so I don't have to hold down the shutter the whole time?

Thanks for the help! This is pretty nifty, although at this point I don't know what any of these new menus mean...

I dont think you can manualy boot with this cam. as theres no ps.fir file with the build.

A MORE than well deserved thanks to all who made CHDK possible. It's made me a camera freak!

there's no 'PS.FIR' but there is 'PS.FI2' in Autobuild 755 ( and it has
been there since ~ 700 )
are you saying 'firm update' does not work on your cam ?

Yeah, it doesn't seem to. Maybe I misunderstood how it works. If I put the card in unlocked, start it in play mode, and go all the way down to the bottom of the menu, there is nothing that says Firm Update. I've looked all around the menus and I don't see anything like that.

I also searched around the menus in the CHDK to see if there was anything that sounded like "do not autoboot" but I couldn't find anything like that-- maybe I just don't know what its called or where to look.

I have made sure the PS.FI2 file (that came with my CHDK download) is in the root of my card, but I can't find anything in any menu that says Firm Update, whether the card is locked or unlocked.

Hmm, I've checked again and its just not there. I guess that means something went wrong with my installation?

I followed the directions for manual installation at the Mac FAQ, and then I copied the PS.FI2 file to the root of the card. The directions I followed are here:  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ/Mac#SD_Card_.E2.89.A44GB

and they are fairly complicated. I think I followed them to the letter but I didn't fully understand what I was doing, especially with the hex editing.

I'm not sure what else to try. I guess I can just keep using the lock/unlock method as a workaround, but it would be nice not to have to physically play with the card when I'm out doing stuff. I can just see that ending in disaster if I'm taking pictures near water or something.

Hmm I'm using windoz and card tricks. maybe it has todo with the mac as i see there is someone else with the same cam and a mac with the same problem.

(personal opinion here) up untill now I have always used the autoboot feature, if you set the cam to clear all values on start up when you turn the cam on it like your using it factory anyways. plus CHDK is always there and ready when you want it. I see no reson to go thru the hasle with manual boot.

please pardon my horrid spelling this is one thing that always eluded me  :'(
