My english is bad,sorry...hehe~

somedays ago i bought a a480,and i want to use CHDK,too. So I want to dump the firmwave of it.
i try many times but all they faild.

I use format the 32M sd card as FAT . then use bootable write the "BOOTDISk" to offset 0x40.
at first i put some chdk files in the card, lock the card.then turn on the cam.some times the cam died,i press the review button, but the screen is not light. And any key doesen't work.the only way i can do is taking out the batterys.

then i put the diskboot.bin in card, not matter VXWORKS or DRYOS,when i start cam with review. it shows "locked card". alse i tried use CardTricks 144 to do it ,but the same result.

last i use the newDrosy.maybe it works, the screen is black and any key doesn't work.some min later , i put out the sd card, open the empty.dum with UE,but it is full of 0.

what should i do ? thanks.
??~

Try cardtricks with the "NewDryOS" option

Also can you post all three pages output from the ver.reg file

Just wanted to add that the best way for you to verify that the dump worked or not is to use CardTricks and press the 'clean' button, so that it will inspect empty.dum for you.

i have tried the "NewDryOS" option, but it doesn't work.and i tried different size 12K~20K,all failed.

The screen should be blank and the camera will appear frozen while the camera is preforming the firmware dump.  Wait for 30 seconds or more and then remove the batteries and the dump should be finished.  If you remove the batteries too soon the dump will be incomplete.

Your advise is well meant and appreciated but it seems that the new models resist the firmware dumping attempts.
I, as well as someone else have tried to dump the IXUS 100 / SD780 with different cards and all the different sized diskboot files.
The camera seems to like the diskboot files as it stays indeed frozen with the NewDryOS option but no matter how long I wait, the dump file stays empty.

If it is the case that the udumper doesn't work then the only way to be sure is to whip out a phototransistor! :D

It's not fun. At all. Kinda cool though.

Any code used to blink LEDs/dump memory will probably need to be encoded with 'dancing bits'. You'll need to set up a development environment for all that. After May (and my exams) I'll be happy to help :)

EDIT: Or you could just try tweaking the udumper code :-[
