A570 Continuous shooting bug

Hi all,

There seems to be a bug with continuous shooting on A570 with the latest versions of CHDK. When i set the camera to either "continuous shooting" mode or "custom timer" mode to take more than one photo at once (for bracketing), only the first photo is taken and then the camera completely freezes. This bug exists both on versions 758 and 760. Before i was using 725 and it worked fine.

camera: a570 101a

1) Well, first of all by all likelihood the reason should be this:

http://tools.assembla.com/chdk/changeset/759

but since trunk 758 didn't work for you either, it simply isn't.

2) I can't get continuous shooting with or without Tv bracketing to fail on my a570 100e (from autobuild full zip for trunk 760, extracted to an empty MMC card).

So...

Try an clean, formatted SD card with a clean CHDK default install of trunk 760. You could have a corrupt CHDK config file or a corrupt filesystem on your card, and it's best to check that first.

I can confirm this bug with the 760 firmware on the A570is 101a on both continuous shooting and custom timer modes. Also the same bug happens on Av mode.
I've formatted and installed chdk on this card and the same happens.
The camera takes the first shot, displays the image for 1 sec then the LCD goes blank and the cam freezes. The only way to unlock the cam is by turning it off then on.

I do appreciate all the effort going in this project and i'm patiently waiting for the next version.

Thanks fudgey,

But as thanos has confirmed, a freshly formatted card with the 760-full build and a fresh chdk.cfg doesn't change anything.

As you said, it can't be the recent change in 759 causing this - i was using 758 when i noticed the bug, i then tried 760 to see if it solves things (and it doesn't).

Maybe the bug is unique to a570 101a cams?

I've gone back to using 725 for now, as i take TV bracketed shots most of the time (for HDR).

If you can build CHDK (quite easy with http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,845.0.html i hear) and have the patience to narrow it down to the exact checking that broke it, that would be very helpful.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Indeed it would. For what I remember, you don't really need any programming skills to work whim's CHDK shell, just a Windows XP machine (vista won't work).

Meanwhile, I'll make two educated guesses and build you guys two versions to test, one of current trunk and one from right before long exposures were added to a570 101a, using gcc 3 (trunk autobuilds use gcc 4). I'll attach them to this post later.

edit: a570 101a trunk 749 and 760 binaries attached, built on arm-elf-gcc 3.4.6 on Linux.
edit 2: replaced previously attached trunk 760 binaries with 750 to pinpoint the flaw
edit 3: removed attachments, they are unnecessary load to the forums now that this is fixed in trunk.

Well, actually i'm on linux and i'm quite used to compiling stuff, so yeah, i can do it.

Thanks a lot for the builds fudgey, will try them and let you know.

Guess what, 749 works and 760 doesn't :)

Ok.. would you mind testing trunk 750 (from the same post, I replaced the 760 attachment with 750) to make sure that's the problem (extra long exposure stuff can be tedious to fix but it can be disabled easily until a fix is ready).

Just like you suspected, it's indeed the extra-long exposure feature that broke it -- 750 doesn't work.

Thanks fudgey :)
