IrfanView shows only preview, not DNG image.
    No.
This statement can't be true, since I provided only a 1600 x 1200 jpeg (2 Mp, along with the raw), dng4ps2 did something to create a file which showed up in IrfanView as a 3 Mp image.
    ...
Even if I take the raw with a 4000x3000 jpeg, IrfanView shows a 3 Mp image.

    Irfanview shows DNG's well.
You can set up the viewer's options to show RAW/DNG files as full size or half size (default setting) image, or as thumbnail.
CHDK RAW / DNG images has always the same dimensions (e.g. 4000x3000), in fact the full sensor dimension - the JPEG resolution settings doesn's influence this.
XNView also works with DNG images, there's also an option to show RAWs in full/half/thumbnail size.

Share your RAW and JPEG and I'll try to convert it ;)

What raw file did you use to get the "better" colormatrix?
I used my shot made according to manual on russian chdk forum.

Thanks for the tip on XnView. This does the conversion for .dng very well.

You are right. This is why the .dng file produced an image which was exactly 1/2 size.

The colors in the .dng image are a little more muddy, a little more noisy, but also a little sharper and no jpeg artifacts than in the matching .jpeg out of the camera, since the raw image still has to be "developed".  XnView /image/Map/autolevels does a nice job in getting the colorbalance right.

It looks like the RAW part of the A1100 CHDK port is working.

I prefer LightRoom because it allows process 12 bit DNG  (XnView converts to 8 bit on opening, it says this) and provides more power and useful tools . Version 3 beta 2 is free, try it  ;)
