28. die sd-karte kann nun wieder formatiert und voll-fotografiert werden
( Eng: 28. the card can now be reformatted and filled with photos )

Much better solution (IMHO): put a new 'empty.dum' on it and keep in your pocket/wallet/camera bag
in case you run into any other not-yet-supported cams  :D
Since 16-32 MB cards are pretty much useless these days, I now usually have a DryOs and a VxW
version with me all the time  :haha

00. cam kaufen, sd-karte kaufen/haben
hehe, for our non german-readers, this means: in order to be able to dump firmware, you have to buy the cam first! :D

i'm not a big fan of posting things "all over the web", but if it helps those germans who cant speak english its okay i guess. CHDKLover (from the german forum) seems to be a smart guy, he did some interesting code customizations (Canon / CHDK-Forum :: Thema anzeigen - Men?-Mod v2 being an example), too bad he doesnt share them with the rest of the world (english chdk forum would be a good start :D).

good idea. just yesterday i was in a big "electronics store" fiddling around with lots of cams on display. next time i will see what i can do regarding smuggling in the sdcard with the dumper :D
too bad you cant have several dumps one SINGLE sdcard. or can you? perhaps with a little modification? this way you can dump several cams in one run.

Is it right the, if at the end of the Data in the Dumpfile are a lot of hexdecimal "FF" and the beginnig contains some of the previous written keywords, the dump is complete?

Your dump is complete. FF just means no data (clear block) is there.

Hi.

I am trying to dump the Ixus 970 IS firmware, but when I start the camera in review mode the camera turns on and the display shows the message "No Image." and at the bottom of the LCD it displays "Card Lock". After some seconds the "Card Lock" message disappears, and I get no dump.
Do you have any idea what can I be doing wrong?

- I tried with a 32MB and 1GB card, with dryOS and vxworks diskboot.bin

Cheers,
gSpot

Have you made the card bootable the proper way ?
1) card needs to contain 'diskboot.bin' and 'empty.dum'
2) card needs to be Canon-bootable: run 'bootable.exe x:' where x: is your card (on the command line)
3) slide write-protect on

or use this: [edit: point link to page] Card Tricks - a small utility to help manage SD cards [currently v. 1.41]

good luck,

wim

Hi whim.

I tried the link with the application but that didn't do the trick as well.

I am able to read the version with the conventional method:

GM1.00c
P-Id:3173 Pal D
fev 29 2008

But I can't get the dump done.

Will try some more...

Cheers,
gSpot

I'm having the same problems in my attempt at dumping the SD1100IS firmware.  I have tried both dumper.zip and udumper.zip files.  I have followed whim's instructions at the beginning of this thread with no luck.

I'm using a 32MB SD and I have followed the instructions on making it bootable using both methods (HDHacker and Bootable.exe) described in the wiki.  When I read the first sector of the SD card BOOTDISK is listed in 0X64.  However, when I start the camera in review mode with both the bootdisk.bin and empty.dum files I get the same message that gSpot is getting.  The display shows the message "No Image." and at the bottom of the LCD it displays "Card Lock". After some seconds the "Card Lock" message disappears, and I get no dump.

I cannot get my camera to hang on any bootdisk.bin file.  I have tried the ps.fi2 file with no luck and holding various buttons while starting the camera in review mode.  I'm pretty much lost on what to try next.
