Title: Build 48
Post by: Allbest on 27 / March / 2008, 12:21:04
Hello, my friends
There are very much of changes that was made since build 37.
An information about most of these changes has been posted  in different threads on this forum
I publicize on this page report about all of these changes.
Here you can download  new versions:
Autobuild path (recent changes): Index of /hdk/autobuild/ (http://grandag.nm.ru/hdk/autobuild/)
and here Index of /chdk/ (http://malbe.nm.ru/chdk/)

Great changes from fingalo:

+ADDED USER MENU
+Added user menu option for instant display on ALT
Description:
User menu. In OSD parameters.
To the user menu you can copy other menuitems to build your favorite menu. (Up to 10 entries)

- User Menu Enable 'Off': User Menu not active.
- User Menu Enable 'Edit': Go to to the User Menu and position on the line where you like to add entries.
Now just go to the menuitem (anywhere) you like to copy. Press FUNC/ERASE/SHOOT_HALF. It is now copied to usermenu (and you can select another and press FUNC/ERASE/SHOOT_HALF. Pressing FUNC/ERASE/SHOOT_HALF (and 'Edit' mode) while in the User Menu will erase the menu item.
- User Menu Enable 'On': Will replace the 'main menu' and use the 'user menu' as your first menu in ALT. Last entry is jump to Main Menu.
- User Menu Enable 'On Direct'.
Will display the 'User Menu' as soon as you press ALT.
Pressing MENU now will display normal menu and now the 'normal' menu sequence follow. new

+Added remote control for ixus700_sd500

PhyrePhoX
+ Wontollas Disk Space Icon
+ horizontal/vertical Space Bar
+ Setting of Size of Space Bar (now real full screen without safety pixel substractions)
+ OSD Clock now with Seconds (togglable)
+ in record mode, when you half-press shoot button, now most icons (battery, filespace, raw status...) disappear
+ updated english & german.lang file
New:
+ width/height of spacebar now togglable (between about 7 ("canvas" is about 6 pixels, so the actual minimum information bar can be set to ONE pixel, almost too small) pixels and 17 pixels, check it out)
+ New Warning thresholds introduced, you can choose between threshold in MB and Percent.
Quote
Example: You can set it so that Space Icon will turn red when free_space under 100 MB. Or you can set it so that Space Icon will turn red when freespace under 10% - setting applies to all space related texts/icons.
+ New RAW Counter threshold, you can set it so that the RAW counter blinks when for example under 10. Previous setting was hardcoded to 1. Also changed: No "Warning" String anymore, just blinking between warning color and OSD color.
+ Raw Counter now enabled by default
+ new get statements available in ubasic: get_disk_size, get_free_disk_space - returns values in KB. you can build scripts now which stop when specific disk limit exceeded, for example.Divide by 1024 to have an "easier" calculation.
+ get_jpg_count and  get_raw_count ubasic commands

a few enhancements, bugfixes (http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,703.msg6115.html#msg6115)

custom AutoIso feature
( Custom AutoISO (http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,372.msg4682.html#msg4682) )
-additional submenu entry "Custom Auto Iso" in parent menu  "Extra photo operation"
Settings in this menu entries allow to tune up work of Auto ISO algorithm taking into account
specific user requests (IS, ISO & shutter limits). Auto ISO feature works in every mode except M and TV when Auto or Hi ISO is turned on and flash mode is any except Auto Flash mode
Description by menu entries:
-"Minimal Shutter speed". Possible to choose fixed values or "Auto" type of value (default and recommended).
When "Auto" was choose  Shutter speed is calculated via the formula 1/fl, where fl is focus distance
-"User Factor (1/FL/factor)"- applicable to the case when "Minimal Shutter speed" parameter is in "Auto" state.
In this case for calculation of "Minimal Shutter speed" formula 1/FL/factor is used (factor is user chosen value)
-"IS Factor (Tv*factor)" - applicable to the case when "Minimal Shutter speed" parameter is in "Auto" state as above.
This menu entry is accessible only for cameras with IS. When your camera is in IS mode than shutter speed will be calculated by using of formula Tv*factorIS=factorIS/FL/factor where factorIS is user selectable value via this menu entry. Default value is "2"
-"Max ISO HI (x10)" - Maximal ISO value for  given camera in ISO HI mode. There is a need to set maximum REAL Iso value for given camera (or lesser value from user point of view). You can see real ISO value in miscellaneous values (it is necessary to toggle this
item in "miscellaneous values" CHDK submenu). For example choose ISO 800 via Canon  menu. Next half press Shutter button. Now you can see "real" ISO value that corresponds to "market" ISO 800. This value will be limit ISO in calculation when camera in Hi ISO mode
-"Max ISO AUTO (x10)" Corresponding value for Auto ISO mode
-"Min ISO (x10)" - Minimal "Real" ISO value for given camera (you can recieve it by experiments or set this value at your option)

stevetm2 + Added adjustable zoom scale (for converters): I'd like to 'commit' changes to chdk but I need write access to assembla... (http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,667.0.html)

+Fixed: negative values of EFL for a650

Beautifull :)

Many great changes.

But i have found bug into zoom in video mode. When i zooming in and forget to release button then camera goes into digital zoom. It's ok but i can't after this make a optical zoom out. Maybe disable digital zoom will be good solution of this problem?

Another think, just estetical. Disc space bar is very good but the white frame is unnecessarily . It will be slimmer and nicer if i could turn off this frame

BTW Thanks :)

The bar has a white frame so you can distinguish it when you have a dark background, otherwise the icon would "disappear". Point your camera to the ceiling to see the dark frame and then point it to a dark place and the white frame will come to the rescue! You can play with the colour of the filling too.

Apart from the frames, the bar can be as thin as one pixel.

I put a draft explanation of Custom AutoISO in http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_firmware_usage/AllBest#Extra_Photo_Operations_.3E_Custom_Auto_ISO (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_firmware_usage/AllBest#Extra_Photo_Operations_.3E_Custom_Auto_ISO)

I hope that gets people started. I also invite you to improve the explanations there, I find it quite a complex feature to explain...

Enjoy,

i found a bug. when using video mode and using the newly implemented optical zoom, if you zoom the full optical zoom then keep zooming using the digital zoom, it will zoom out from the digital zoom but will not zoom out of the optical zoom (stays stuck at full optical zoom). maybe this could be an easy fix for you guys?
Title: Re: Build 48
Post by: dzsemx on 28 / March / 2008, 03:57:47
there is some kind of bug in autoiso mode in my bulid...
A630 build 48
minimal shutter speed: auto
min iso: 5
max iso:30
max isohi:53
user factor:1
is factor:1
no zoom

and i get as target shutter speed 1/80s (or 1/60) in both auto iso mode...
1/80 isn't too high for user factor 1?
user factor 2= 1/160s
......
user factor 8 = 1/640
it's ok... its fine for sport shooting :)
maybe user factor should be extended to a larger interval... not only 1-8

so user factor it's not working like described on the wikia page
(and it's talking about the conversion factor on wikia?!?!)
i never saw 1/40 as target speed... :(
i should use shutter priority mode but autoiso does not work by default...
when using zoom, target sutter speed changes like expected
IS factor doesn't affect anything at all(because i got no IS?)so it should be removed, or make it work...
i think it's using 1/(FL*10*user) for shutter speed calculations.
minimal shutter speed works ok (user factor is ignored)

notice: originally the firmware has different settings for autoiso and for autoisoHI.
should be nice to have different settings for both of them if possible :D

about the crashing i can't say anything yet...  i'll try to figure out more

@coutts: turn off digital zoom in video mode, it works fine without digital zoom,
probably it'll be fixed by the guys ;)

btw the build is great ;)

well nothing in the custom auto iso works on my A710. ewavr, what about yours?
ISO overrides never worked and don't work here either.
minimal shutter speed doesn't work either, it sets whatever speed it wants. it would be great if the minimal shutter speed would work and even in custom ISO modes, not only AutoISO.

Yes.
But I don't need autoiso. I always set ISO80 (as a last resort ISO200).

The User mode calculates the slowest shutter speed, perhaps the scene has lots of light, so your ISO was put to the minimum (and faster shutter used)? The Custom AutoISO tries to maintain the same overall exposure...

For camera's w/o IS it is simply ignored (defaults to 1).

i think it's using 1/(FL*10*user) for shutter speed calculations.
It should use 1/(FL*user_factor)*is_factor, but this is only the slowest recommended setting.
Quote

Good to know, at least the problem is localized.

Thanks dzsemx for your testing and reporting, I will collect more info and correct as needed. Please note the ISO for each selected shutter speed to see if you hit the max/min values you set.

Ewavr,

I also like using ISO 80, but here there's a chance to get even better dynamic range and lower noise by setting the range 50-200 (or whatever number is the true base ISO for your camera).

The difference from the previous setting is that custom AutoISO maintains the same exposure.

But A710 don't support ISO override, except standart values (80, 100, 200, 400, 800).

I think the A710 does support ISO override but it's not well implemented for it.
when you set an ISO override and take a picture you do get the result you had wanted on screen when you let go of the shutter button immediately after taking the pic. the camera just overrides the ISO in the wrong phase.

minimal shutter speed doesn't work either
Minimal shutter speed is only one parameter of algorithm. It is desirable value but it doesn't set directly. It depends from current exposure, Max and min iso settings
ISO overrides never worked and don't work here either.
Did you test iso override in Auto ISO mode?
the camera just overrides the ISO in the wrong phase
May be but all overrides CHDK does in one phase

wontolla ("maintainer of that feature") is working on it, and he will take the time that is needed. As he is busy with other things right now, it can take a while for that (great) feature to be implemented. you can however compile your own flavor of chdk with wontollas code included (if you know how to use a compiler and a text editor).

i have always on the screen the real and the marketed iso value :) just to be sure
i tried in many light conditions to see when it raises iso value...
so i got  1/80s(and sometimes 1/60)

For camera's w/o IS it is simply ignored (defaults to 1).
so remove short IS_factor = (shooting_get_is_mode()<=1)?conf.autoiso_is_factor:1; :D
(i'm just joking, i will try to understand the code better)

and about crashing...
it occours every time when autoflash is on and i point my camera to a bright scene that don't need flash...

hey a new version :)

i wanna take this opportunity to thank everyone who was involved in developing this. first of all allbest of course, but also all the programmers whose code was included in this release and everybody on here who's suggesting new features and testing for bugs.

i haven't checked out the "auto iso" function yet (looks promising, hope it works on my cam), but the user menu alone is an awesome new feature.

i found a small bug -- whether or not you mark the toggle active in the menu, the osd is _always_ visible in review mode. nothing major.

(a560)

thanks again everybody, you make my cam so much more fun.

Thaks for great job. I'm using CHDK no longer then month in my A560. It's very helpfull and I can learn how my camera is working at all. I try to use as many options, as I can manage in A560. In the new built 48 I can only zoom in durring video recording. Can you tell me it is normal, or small bug. Also as I understood well, it is also not possible to enble manual focusing in this camera.
Love to all of you.

Post by: brachiopod on 28 / March / 2008, 14:58:00
I just love the all bestbuild! Really appreciate all the time everyone has put into this.

Not sure were to report this, but I'm noticing a problem with my camera with version 46 and 48. I have the SD870IS firmware 1.00C, and there is something wrong with the main CHDK alt-menu. What happens that the menu only stays on the screen for a fraction of a second, to a few seconds; it seems to depend on what the camera is pointed at; if the camera lens is covered the menu acts mostly normally. When it is not working, the menu will either completely disappear or sometimes the right edge or bottom will remain, but you can't use it. The menu is gone until you press one of the arrow keys, then the menu will reappear with your changes for a moment.  The script menu is OK.

This is kind of hard to describe, I could post a video of it if needed. Not sure if this is just me or what, but it happened with both 46 and 48 on this camera (those are the only ones I've tried).

I've been working around it by pressing the camera's menu button first, then getting CHDK up, that works fine. It seems to have something to do with what the camera is pointing at and it needing to redraw something on the screen.
Thanks!

custom auto iso works somehow..but with limitations. likewise in iso override:
exif data for the test images show iso values lower than 80 or higher than 1600..but the images taken with lower values have identical histogram readings with images taken at iso 80. images with exif/display data showing iso 2500 are in fact less bright than images with iso set at 1600. my conclusion: iso override doesnt seem to work right with the a560.

Allbest,

I have another bug report, concerning video mode - on S3IS this time

Option OSD parameters -> Miscellaneous values -> Show in video mode doesn't work as it should in video mode of S3IS (which is started with a dedicated movie button, unlike other cameras where shutter is used). Values (like aperture, ISO) are shown only if I half press the shutter during video recording (to do refocus for example). Image distance is shown in miscellaneous (during video recording) only if MF selected or if I half press the shutter

No problem with this on A620

-----

Also, as I mentioned before, if I switch on A620 in video mode, ISO label is showing 0. But if I change to some of photo modes, it starts working and it's working after that in video mode also

That's because this setting nothing to do with actual video recording. It looks only at the dial mode position.

if I half press the shutter during video recording (to do refocus for example)

my A710 doesn't do that. is this a default feature on the S3 (refocusing when half pressing the shutter)? I would totally like this in my cam...
Title: Re: Build 48
Post by: vit40 on 30 / March / 2008, 14:48:48
GrAnd:

I checked behavior of my A620 again and you are right - miscellaneous values (in my case aperture, ISO, subject distance) are shown on LCD whether this option is on or off, but values are not updated during video recording if this option if off (altough camera is varying aperture and iso during video recording, dependion on lighting)

But, on S3IS, these values are not shown during video recording, except on half press of the shutter. It would be fine to have this values shown also during video mode, mostly to check if the focus distance is right

a710is:

Yes, S series is different (I bought second hand S3 several days ago) than A series. You can set autofocus mode to continuous, an camera will be refocusing during video recording, or you can force manual refocus with half press of the shutter during video recording. If you fully press shutter, jpeg is saved and video recording continues further (well - if raw is enabled through CHDK, video recording is also terminated, which was discussed in other thread)
Title: Re: Build 48
Post by: vit40 on 30 / March / 2008, 15:25:14
Edit to above post

I found out that on S3, I can get Misc. values during video recording by setting "Show misc values" to "Always" instead "Shoot". Didn't try this before because A620 is showing them in video even if this is set to "Shoot"

But - there's another issue - only aperture value is updated during video recording, while image distance and ISO aren't. Values are update if I half press the shutter during video recording

About AF behaviour on S3, it seems that AF is on all the time during video recording (like on  a camcorder), no matter of AF mode setting in the menu, although you can a sort of force AF with half press of the shutter (according to manual)

But - there's another issue - only aperture value is updated during video recording, while image distance and ISO aren't. Values are update if I half press the shutter during video recording

You can see changing of "market" ISO value in this mode. The "Real" value  is constant as well as subject distance (CHDK recalcs it but these values don't change)

Hi Allbest.

After an hour of playing with my A620 and S3, I'll try to explain in, so I hope, more descriptive way.

Settings (A620 and S3 - build #49):

Show misc values                     Shoot
Show values in video                ON
Show zoom                               ON
Show real aperture                   ON
Show market ISO                      ON
Show DOF calculator                 In Misc
Show Subject distance in misc   ON

Displayed labels - A620 and S3 photo mode:

- no keypress : zoom
- half press  : zoom, aperture, distance, iso

note1: evertything works fine in photo mode on A620
note2: on S3, image distance label doesn't show change of focus, if AF mode is set to
"continuous", although camera is refocusing all the time

Displayed labels - A620 video mode set on command dial:

- no keypress : zoom, aperture, distance, iso
- half press  : zoom, aperture, distance, iso
- recording   : zoom, aperture, distance, iso

note1: Aperature and iso are updated regularly, image distance is updated
on half press (that's how camera works). Zoom value is also updated regularly
during video recording, and image distance label shows how camera is refocusing
after zoom change during video recording (or within my video script with MF ability).

note2: iso label shows 0 if camera was switched on with command dial in video mode.
Turning the dial to one of photo modes and back to video solves this issue

Displayed labels - S3 video mode set on command dial:

- no keypress : zoom, aperture, distance, iso

note: aperture and iso updated regularly, but image distance isn't updated although
AF is working all the time in video mode (unless MF is on, of course)

- recording, started with dedidated movie button (with command dial in video or photo mode) : zoom only

note1: aperture, distance and iso are displayed on half press of the shutter during recording
note2: image distance is also displayed during recording in MF mode
note3: with "Show misc values"="Allways", aperture, distance and iso are displayed, but
distance and iso are not updated according to conditions
note4: same issue with iso displaying 0 as on A620

You may misunderstood (like I am, with my a650is)
According to
For Developers - CHDK Wiki (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/For_Developers)
860is use DryOS.
No need of PS.FIR

You should do these steps.
FAQ - CHDK Wiki (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._There.27s_no_PS.FIR_file_in_the_CHDK_download_for_my_camera._What_do_I_do.3F)
