I am not a dev, but I have been trying to learn how to do some simple dev work on CHDK.
What I suggest:

* Have a good look through the other articles on http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/For_Developers.
* Read the code through completely and try to understand as much as you can.
* Install everything to do a build and make chdk.
* Read through threads about porting to other cameras http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/board,29.0.html - some of the threads have some excellent actual detail on what to do (plenty of questions asked by beginners and plenty of well written answers - get a feeling for who is who).

If you've done the above, visit #chdk on freenode irc://freenode/chdk (link works in Firefox if you install the Chatzilla plugin) during european evening and ask nicely for help. The guys are friendly, but you should get a good reception if the guys can see you have done background work, and they think you are likely to actually be productive.

I also can get hold of a A470 if you need some testing done - email me (see profile).

I have compiled CHDK for a470 with base from a720, but it don't want to boot. I don't understand that thing with "boot.c" addresses, I think the bug in there

The search functionality in the forum and wiki seems poor (unless searching for a single term).

I find it is better to use google and the site: modifier i.e. google for site:chdk.setepontos.com "boot.c" and google for site:chdk.wikia.com "boot.c".

Hope that helps.

Also I think that if you are porting, perhaps it is time to open an "A470 Porting..." thread on the DryOS Development sub-forum.

Cheers

I don't think I can call it 'porting',  i do it in some mystery way, and I don't no if I do It right way,
the work is automated in 99% by developers of CHDK ))))
Information on what exactly to do is really very poor(((

Well, all main things are in boot.c and makefile.inc!!!
main task is to understand how it must be)))

Any word of when a port for the A470 may be completed?

I noticed there are other DIGIC III cameras with working CHDK firmwares
