Well, I worked with a lot of scripts for time-lapse. Wrote my own script, which is not bad but rawopint is absolutely great. Far away from other time-lapse script, which I have used.

Use as much as possible the defaults. Defaults give you already great results.

My suggestions about timelapse against the sun:

ui_exp_over_thresh_frac=1000   1% overexposure
ui_exp_under_thresh_frac=0       underexposure control off

Thanks for the tip.

I copied rawopint.lua to the SCRIPTS directory on the SD card.
For running it appears that I also need a rawoplib.lua file.

I'll need to try the 1.4.0 CHDK build...
And yes, it runs now.

I got got over 2500 photo's from my NB6L clone battery, many more than  the dpreview said.
I used the info from this blog to make an mp4 out of the photos.
The result is boring as the sky was tightly clouded up high.
But as a test it worked.
I did notice some flickering though.
How can I fix this?

What does it mean when the csv says 'sv 380 != cam 476 / smooth overshoot:-1' ?


PS:
I changed the Target ISO to 100 as the sx260hs doesn't know 80.
Max ISO was changed to 400 as that gives a bit of noise already. (maybe I am paranoid w.r.t. noise and we will not notice this in an mp4)
If I disable Draw Debug will that remove the meter at the top of the photo?

Yes, the script is still under developing. You have to use the latest CHDK build...

The same with my cams. It's amazing who long the cam works. I think zooming and focusing needs a lot of energy…

Where we are talking about? When this is the same flicker as in my videos it is around 2/96 EV steps. Not much. Using a DLSR or most other scripts give you 1/3 EV steps. Factor 16 higher. I fix it with a deflicker filter in VirtualDub. But I’m sure, reyalp will find a solution to fix it.
It would be probably helpful, when you give us a link to the video und upload the log file.

Yes, when your cam did not support ISO80…

I can’t see any noise on my S110 or G1x on ISO400. But both have a greater sensor. On my SX230 I haven’t checked it…

Yes, the draw might be helpful for the developer to analyze…

It is similar to the flickering in this video.
So perhaps not bad but still noticeable.

When your flicker is similar, you will see it on the meter96 value in the log file.

This is one of my first videos, which I made with my own script. Go to 1 minute, where the sun goes down. There you will see, who it looks, when you have 1/3 EV steps…

Flicker can happen for many reasons. If you upload the log file, I may be able to tell what's happening in your case. Uploading the video may be useful too.

There are some deflicker plugins from virtualdub that can help some.

In the desc column, the / separates different messages, so these are two unrelated things.

The sv message means the script tried to set ISO 80, but when it read back, it was set to 160.

I assume this is from before you changed the target ISO?

The smooth overshoot isn't a problem, it's just information about what the code was doing. The exposure algorithm tries to smooth out exposure changes by averaging the previous exposure change with next calculated exposure. "smooth overshoot" happens when the average would change exposure in the wrong direction for the current meter result. For example, if the last exposure change -3 and meter shows +1 is needed to reach the target exposure, then averaging in the -3 would would result in a -1 change. In this case, no change is made. This message will also be generated every time the exposure change becomes 0.

You should understand that this script was mainly written to test some new features in the CHDK 1.4 code. It works fairly well, but there are some rough edges.

Thanks for posting your results and logs. I'm trying to focus on stuff for the 1.4 release now, so I may not respond quickly, but it should help improve the script in the future.

Yes, I changed the 80 into 100 afterwards.

OK, using 100 should fix it. Unfortunately there's no way to make the menu default to the lowest ISO the camera supports.

One thing I notice is that exposure is quite short, sometimes less than 0.0005 (1/2000) second. I have found very short exposure to cause some flicker on my cameras, but sx260 allows down to 1/3200 in the factory firmware, so maybe it's OK at this speed.

I can't tell if this is the cause of the flicker in your case. The meter only changes by +/- 2/96th of stop, so it's not very much.  If there is more variation in light, it's easier to tell if this is happening because it smooths out when the shutter is below some value (around 1/1000th on the D10 I usually use)

Unfortunately the script doesn't yet control aperture, or ND filter on cameras that have both iris and ND, so to avoid this you would have to set a smaller aperture or ND before starting the script. You can set a minimum shutter speed (Min Tv sec/100k), but if that limit is hit the scene will be overexposed.

If the ISO had been set to 100, the exposure might have been slightly longer.
