Title: help with initial installation
Post by: tmeehan18 on 10 / October / 2009, 10:19:13
Hello,
I'm new to CHDK. I have an A590 and am working on an iMAC, OSX.
I downloaded the indicated (full) version of CHDK  (1.00e) and it shows on my SD card. With the card locked, the camera doesn't power up. I have to unlock the card to get it to power up. But now the menu doesn't show the new firmware update option.
Please help!

Hello & welcome, tmeehan18 !

I'm new to CHDK. I have an A590 and am working on an iMAC, OSX.
I downloaded the indicated (full) version of CHDK  (1.00e) and it shows on my SD card. With the card locked, the camera doesn't power up. I have to unlock the card to get it to power up. But now the menu doesn't show the new firmware update option.
a) pls. check whether your fw version is really 1.00e --> CHDK wikia - FAQ (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._How_can_I_get_the_original_firmware_version_number_of_my_camera.3F)

b) with the CHDK files on the SD card, power on the camera in playback mode (mode switch to the blue [>] sign),
press MENU, scroll down...the "Firmware update" menu item is not available in record mode / when the lens is extended.

c) Read the  Mac FAQ (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ/Mac), especially Still having trouble (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ/Mac#Still_Having_Trouble.3F)

*edit: lol, whim was fast this time  :)
