I'm an idiot, I really wanted to get that a95 or what ever, but at frys I thought, "There has to be a sx110 chdk coming out soon, so why not buy that one. My goal was to do time lapse and movement to catch the people who put old sofas in the alley at night. Among other things. But hey the camera is not that bad. It is just not programmable yet. Now, I got to read on the diskboot.bin "method" to figure out what you mean there buddy. It sounds to me like it might automagically take precedence over some default bios and so I don't have to do the firmware update steps at all? That is an odd looking question-statement of some sort.

FAQ - CHDK Wiki

But, like I told you before the sx100 chdk WILL NOT WORK on a different camera. There is no point in even trying.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Got that last part really well. What I really wanted to do is to load anything, not that particular file, but just anything so as to maybe partially port this thing or just contribute as the port goes forward. I got a perl background, but just recently started to learn C and to know a little more about the really low level stuff like registers, memory locations, pointers and the like hardware.

Anyway. So someone was able to make the camera blink out the firmware in binary. Now we just need to take that binary and do some disassemble to make it into readable code. Once there is something readable then we can compare the commands to others used before (sx100 maybe?) and have the CHDK point to those addresses for the different commands it makes. I can figure it out in a year or two :) maybe more... or I could just return this thing. It sounds so simple, I wonder why Canon doesn't help CHDK with at least the porting of it. It just makes sense to let people program the insides if they want to.

thus far the camera feels really easy on the settings and quick changes. I like it.

I have one Question today I dumped the Firmware a 2nd Time (with the new Version of CardTricks) and there is a other Result. I compared both an there are some differences. Is it normal or is the new File better?

@obihoernchen

i sure hope it's better - CT should now dump the entire firmware, and the dump should load OK into IDA ...
that said, large parts of the dumps should be identical

also note (from release notes 1.41)
Quote
Helper files and source code now always overwritten
this includes the udumper code, which should now always be up to date

Hello,

Is it possible to know, based on the available info if sx110 is likely going to be ported, and if yes is it possible to know roughly the time needed for that?

up to now there is nobody who wants to port the SX110IS and I can't port :(
I hope anyone port the Camera, maybe the SX100IS porter?

I looked at the SX100IS porting process and its needed nearly 5-6 month from dumping up to final CHDK.
But nearly 4 months for a beta.

sorry for my bad english^^

Thanks for the answer. I asked because I hesitate between sx100 and sx110, both available to purchase. Now it seems I'll get the sx100.

I bought the SX110 yesterday.  Its a great camera, much better than SX100.
I am ready to assist any porters in testing and/or any other stuff which is required for porting.
Folks... Lets get working on this :)

Cheers,
Flash.
