I didn't see this as an option—if I missed it, I apologize—but I'd love to see an automated movie restart option, like the one available through Magic Lantern. To use their description: "While this setting is on, movie recording will restart automatically, unless stopped by you. There will be a few seconds skipped during restarting."

That would be very sweet and would get my vote.

Besides several that I voted for on the list at the top of the page, I'll second these others that have been mentioned here:

- Bitrate selection in video, for videos such as public meetings where there's little action and hence little variation in bitrate, but where the quality setting to get a given bitrate (file size) isn't easy to estimate. This actually covers much of what I'd like to do with the camera.

- External USB microphone. There are lots of good USB microphones available. The built-in mic is terrible. Good sound is as important as video for what I want to do with it. Having to handle a separate audio recorder is a nuisance.

- Energy saving mode. In video, the camera eats batteries like crazy. I don't always need the LCD display to be on while capturing meeting videos, for example. Have a menu of power sucking functions to check off that all could be quickly turned off with one menu toggle - the display, continuous autofocus, image stabilization, GPS, etc.

- Auto movie restart as a menu option. I'll try the posted script later today.

- Xvid/Vidx compression in the camera. Not sure how practical that would be in real time. But with the camera set to record at 30% quality (to keep 30 minute files under 4 GB in size), fairly high quality Xvid files, batch compressed on a desktop PC with mencoder, are less than a quarter of the size of the camera .MOV files.

Speaking of batteries, the lack of an external high capacity battery pack is a missing hardware feature that gives me grief every 45 minutes or so when recording video.

Does anyone know whether the SX230HS (or similar) could electrically withstand using a 3xAA NiMH Eneloop battery pack in place of the LiIon cell? It would start at a little higher voltage, with an initial no-load voltage of up to 4.5v.

What about audio gain control? I've connected external mics buy cutting the cables on the originals, and the problem is that when there is no sound, the gain boosts up and makes a lot of noise! I need to tell the camera not to do that!

a) TTL in Manual Mode would be great (although I did find and use a script).

b) Auto ISO in Manual mode

HD video and Formatting issue

hd video at maximum resolution possible for non hd video supported cameras, ie s3is and a495 which I really want because 640x480 video looks horrible and I see no reason why the 6 mp and 10mp cameras don't support it.  I would also like to see the ability to format the card without deleting CHDK.  I hooked my s3 to the computer via mini usb because we couldn't find the SD card reader and the card was locked so the computer could not delete so I formatted the card and it was gone.

What about compressing the Jpeg, like with jpeg 2000 or lzw for instance. the jpeg 2000 is lossless as well as the lzw. Is there some way to retain the in camera processing but yet to offer compression that is not lossless. this is what i think would be a nice feature to work on / have.
