How to tell which viewfinder is in use?

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a way to tell which viewfinder is in use at runtime.
I mean whether the viewport is being displayed on the small screen,
or the flip out LCD screen.

If anyone can help it would be appreciated.

While I'm at it,
I'd also like to stop the orange flashing recording LED from flashing while I'm recording video.
It is often visible on reflective surfaces of things you're recording close up.
Cheers, Art.

If not actually, then potentially.
