Okay, so I had CHDK installed and it worked fine. Then, I decided I wanted to upgrade to the latest version. I replaced PS.FI2 and DISKBOOT.BIN with the ones found at http://mighty-hoernsche.de/bins/sx110is-100b-0.9.9-918.zip, turned on my camera in playback mode, and opened the menu. When I scrolled to the bottom to select Firm Update, however, it wasn't there. I tried re-downloading the files, but it still didn't work. I don't want to have CHDK start automatically (that's why I tried to select Firm Update.)

If you are using a Mac, see http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ/Mac#Still_Having_Trouble.3F

Otherwise, it's something you've done. The loading method is always the same for each camera.

To see the firm update menu, you have to start with the play button, but it sounds like you are doing that.

Yes, I am using a Mac, and that worked. Thanks! (I wouldn't have thought the camera would read the extended attributes.)
