File Naming.  It would be great if my sx10 would automatically name files and folders by date, as in folder 100 92912 and file IMG92912. Month, Day, Year
It is hell creeping through hundreds of files and folders, looking at their "details" just to figure out when they were taken.

This is a little problematic, since some (if not all) cameras are limited to use 8+3 file names (LETTERS_.EXT). Even CHDK built-in file rename feature (by text-box) is forced to use 8+3 style.
if (2*b || !2*b) {

There are many programs that will do that translation in batch mode for you on your PC.  The most comprehensive is http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/  but http://www.irfanview.com/ is probably easier to use.

There is also another problem. The camera displays only pictures with standard file names. Read the documents of CIPA standards: http://www.cipa.jp/english/hyoujunka/kikaku/cipa_e_kikaku_list.html

Shows what happens when desk jockeys make the rules, just list your files by number and stuff them away :)
Guess they've never picked up a photo and wondered when it was shot  :)

Thanks for the link, but tried irfanview years ago and it took over my system, was hell getting it off.
And  I'll keep hoping for usable files names right on the camera (some day) :)

Got my first little pocket cam without a "C" setting to save a preset configuration, which I've been glad to have on my bridge cameras.  It would be a really nice feature, and maybe CHDK could provide more than one.

Also I keep reading professional advice about formatting cards at every use, though I've never experienced a problem in keeping CHDK installed through many sessions.  If there's anything to it, allowing a card format without wiping the CHDK configuration would be helpful.
Appreciative end-user for several years:  S5is, SX10is, and SD4000is.

This has been looked at a few time but nobody has found a way to backup all the Canon settings.

Formatting tends to be low level - you lose everything.  Otherwise  you are not formatting.

Shooting with the EVF and review the pic with the LCD?

sx50 hs canĀ“t do it :(

Maybe, if at least the CHDK would let use the EVF and the LCD at the same time...
