TX-1 1280x720 movie mode on other cams possible?

Now the TX1 has been ported, has anyone discovered how they managed to pull off a 1280x720 movie mode?
Was it, as many speculated, a software upscale, or is it true resolution?
Can these "tricks" be forced on other cameras? Will it only work on the 7.1 MP 1/2.5" CCD models?

My brother tells me that the Sony CCD used in the TX-1 is the same as the ones used in other Power Shot cameras, and that it's physically impossible for the CCD to yield the 1280 x 720 video on it's own at anything more than 5 frames a second. This, to him, suggests that the resolution is simply upscaled via software.
That, to me, suggests that it could be applied tother Canon cameras.

2 threads about this already exist.

Higher 320x240 FPS?
DIFFERENT SIZE AND FRAMERATE VIDEO

all some of us can do is to wait for news from developers :)
i'd say it's possible but hey I'm not that good at programming, anyway even 1280x466 or something like that would be ok, A710 and A570 have the same sensor as TX1.
It would seem the TX1 records 1280 lines vertically and 466 horisontally which it upscales to 720, the sensor's limit is 466 horisontal lines @ 30 fps.

a710is, where did you find the specs for the TX-1 sensor?

Thanks.

I think it would be pointless implementing software upscaling in the camera, (you can do a better job on a Mac/PC), however being able to read more horizontal information off the CCD would be great, so a 1280 x 480 mode or even 854x480 would be fantastic!

After working with 16:9 for so long, 4:3 seems so old skool!
