Hey All,

Quick question. Does anyone have a hack to unlock usb port for a field monitor?

I'm trying to connect my Nexus tablet to the camera utilizing the DSLR controller app. I can connect the app to the camera but only to view stored photos/vids.

I tried messing with the Remote Options on CHDK but the app was unable to connect to the camera. As soon as I turned off the the Remote option I could connect to the DSLR controller app.

Any help would be awesome!!

The remote options are for the DIY hardware remote (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/USB_Remote) which won't help you.

CHDK only supports do live view over USB using the PTP Extension (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/PTP_Extension)require special client software (usually https://app.assembla.com/spaces/chdkptp/wiki) that understands the CHDK protocol so it won't work in other apps. chdkptp only runs on windows and linux, so you won't be able to run it on your phone. You could run it on a laptop or PC.

According to the manual, the SX530 does support analog (SD) TV out while shooting, which might provide a solution with some addition hardware. HD out in shooting mode is not supported.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

If you REALLY want Remote Live View, via Wi-Fi, on your Nexus Tablet.
Go here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.canon.ic.cameraconnect&hl=en
Then scroll down to the "[Features and compatible models]", select a (NEW) Canon Camera
that supports the features that you want. i.e.  Remote Live View, via Wi-Fi.
And then, if necessary, trade-in your Sx530 for one that is on Canons "Camera Connect" list of
supported cameras.

If you need more details, or a demo, you can download Canons User manual for your new camera and
then install Canons "Camera Connect" on your Nexus Tablet and then go to a Camera Store that allows
pre-purchase camera demos.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to try and connect it to my laptop and see how it goes. And thanks for the SD info. I read the manual and saw what you are talking about. There are definitely some small SD monitors that can be hacked to work.

By any chance would you know why HD can't pass through? It would seem the hardware is there to do it... Is it just a matter of dev?

@Hardware_Hacker

Yeah, I got the Canon app to run wireless. It does pass through for view only and snap shots. I'm looking for a hack to pass through vid recording. As a point I'm not just interested in wireless communication as my testing was all done via hardwire. I picked up 2 Micro USB to usb cables and tethered my Nexus to the camera. Again I  got the DSLR controller to work for pic view only (I'm aware that DSLR app is not designed for a Powershot. I was just testing to see if it could work.)

As to your point of selling off my SX530 and upgrading. What is the fun in that?!? I know I can pick up a better camera but I also know that my camera is capable of doing the same thing (and by "know" I mean I'm pretty sure. And by "pretty sure" I mean I hope.)  :D

But seriously. I want to see if I can hack it to do what I want. It makes for a much more interesting camera and story. So yeah, do think there is a way to hack the camera to allow my tablet to pass through video recording?

Note this generally requires a Canon adapter in the USB port, which AFAIK doesn't come standard with recent cams and doesn't allow you to use USB at the same time. It is possible to hack an adapter that does both: https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=5691.msg62525#msg62525

Someone would have to reverse engineer to know for sure. Could be the system isn't actually up to running both at the same time, due to memory, bus or CPU limits. I would expect Canon to offer it on their higher end P&S if it were really simple.

I confirm I currently can use some canon cam (s100, G7x...) with a remote live view using the usb/analog out.
As mentionned this needs a "double" usb cable you need to prepare....or buy if you could find one. for kap i use this one successfully for long years http://www.kapshop.com/Rig-Parts-Video-link/c6_40/p274/Canon-11-pin-for-CHDK/SDM-and-Video-out/product_info.html,
but I'm afraid this one is a mini usb while you maybe need a micro for SX530 ?? if interest I know other source for similar cable but again with mini usb.
