Is there a CHDK version for the Canon SX50 camera? I fashioned a wireless(radio) shutter release for my SX30 camera and would like to do the same for my SX50.

Thank you for responding. Can you explain to me how and what to load onto my SD card so that CHDK will function in my SX50 Canon camera? I have no programing knowledge other than a little visual basic, I don't know what "porting" a camera means, I don't know what "bin" files are, etc.

First, you need to format your SD card with FAT32. The most reliable way to do this (windows) is with this program. It works for large SD cards:

Now, copy all the files in the zip to the root directory of the SD card.

Put the card in and start the camera by pressing the PLAY button. Press the UP button and you hopefully will see a menu item called "Firmware Update". Choose it (press SET), and it should start CHDK. If it doesn't, you probably don't have the "B" version of the firmware, and you're SOL for now (Scheiße Outta Luck).

If CHDK does start, you press the shortcut button at the upper left to enter "ALT" mode. "ALT" will appear on the screen near the bottom. Now press "MENU" and choose, "Miscellaneous", "SD Card/Make Bootable", and press set. It should show an "OK" box. Turn off the camera, take out the SD card, set the write protect tab to protected, put in the card, start up the camera and it should start CHDK automatically.

That's all there is to it. :)

I had my hopes for this CHDK, however I see that shutter speed is still locked to 15 seconds. That's really all I wanted out of CHDK to get the shutter speed up to 65 seconds. Oh well, time to reformat my SD card.

If you are going to give up so easily, perhaps it's best you reformatted your card and moved on.  ;)

I'm looking right now at my sx50 and it just took a 1 minute exposure using the CHDK override functionality.  I'm sure it will go much longer - I have not tried that yet though.

Have you read through any of the CHDK documentation to understand how to use CHDK overrides ?

When one if frustrated as heck, it's human nature to want to give up. If I wanted complexity I'd be using an Android phone not an iPhone  :D

I didn't read the part about overrides until you mentioned it. 1 minute is fine. I don't understand what they mean by Half Shutter + Up.
