Title: higher quality video or audio?

i have an A590IS, and i was wondering if there was any way to use a stereo microphone or shoot in 720p video (since youtube now supports it)?

or is this  beyond the capabilities of chdk lol.

It is beyond the capabilities of the CPU

Video encoding is performed by dedicated hardware in (y)our camera(s). Would you seriously expect
a 70 MHz ARM to be able to encode video in real time at anything approaching 720p specs ?
I guess if anyone tried it would make a nice alternative time lapse ...

Well, it's beyond capabilities of the sensor, so even TX-1 has faked 720p  - it is vertically interpolated, because sensor has about 480 lines in video mode, an bearing in mind 720p is 16:9 and sensor is 4:3, even less lines is actually used, because video frame is cropped on the top and bottom ....

my a630's sensor has about 400 lines in video mode, that is upsampled to 480 lines, and it looks strange, ugly, blocky.
the poor hardware cannot be enhanced too much via software

FWIW,

My four TX-1s shoot absolutely beautiful 1280x720p, 30fps video whether there is some trickery involved or not.

There is no pixellation or banding in skies or solid color areas. Reds and oranges hold detail without turning muddy and the files edit easily since they are MJPEG.

I've been shooting stereo footage with two, twinned TX-1 rigs and the only problem is maintaining the quality of the originals through the workflow necessary for projection without creating massive, uncompressed files.
