Hi..

Just a simple question(s) about installation..
- when you say 'Lock the card and power on', won't card locking cause the camera to refuse saving any pics to the card?
no, i'm not sure of details, but u want it locked when u put it into the camera, and it can write on it without problems. u just won't be able to change stuff on the card when used w/ computer.
- do i have to do the installation once? or will this happen every time i power on the camera?
thanks alot for the great work.
once it's on the card, the camera will use chdk whenever u have that card in. otherwise, it'll revert to orig firmware.

As jrav said, it works with CHDK when SD card is locked.

#1: CHDK will still write to a locked card. If the card is not locked, it won't do the auto-boot thingy to load CHDK (try it yourself!).
#2: For DryOS based cameras (such as this one), CHDK is never "installed" onto the camera and is required to be loaded via the SD card on boot at all times.

- Remove the card, and CHDK is gone.
- UnLock the card, and CHDK won't boot, but card is writable by camera.
- If you want to write/delete from the card on your PC or other non-CHDK devices, make sure you unlock the card beforehand.

Thank you jrav and will. I managed to get CHDK working on my camera.. YaY!!
I can see the effect of CHDK happening to me now..  i have been using it for the last 3 hrs without noticing the time :P

I also ran into another problem with my card. Its a 4GB Sandisk Ultra Plus Usb. I cant seem to be able to format it to FAT16. i tried using CardTricks which refused formatting it. Paragon partition manager doesnt show the option of FAT16 unless the partition is smaller than 4 GB. I tried to make 2 partitions as suggested in the boot guide, but it seems DryOS doesnt allow the use of 2 partitions.
Hmm.. any ideas?

101a boots perfectly for me on an 80IS.

One issue I do have though is that it's very slow compared to CHDK builds I've used on other cameras.

On other cameras, I will see the blue light blink as soon as I turn on the camera and CHDK works instantly. With this build, the camera does nothing for maybe 1 - 1.5 seconds and then the lens finally comes out. After that, there is a 1 - 2 second delay before CHDK works. Is this a problem on my end?

First, it's not just you, I get the exact same delays. Second, I too have been wondering what the cause is, having previously used CHDK (AllBest builds) on an Ixus 70 and PowerShot A720 IS. On both of those cameras there was no noticeable delay when switching on, or before the CHDK logo was shown.

@fortysix

you should probably ask chr, if he has ever measured the time the cam takes to decode diskboot.bin ... :D
(would be my prime suspect)

Ixus 70 and PowerShot A720 IS

exactly: those have vxworks and dryos respectively. 80-90is have 'newdryos' which requires 'encoded' diskboot.bin.

Ah, I was not aware there were different versions of DryOS like that. The delay makes sense then I guess. So the question is, is it possible there will be speed improvements?

BTW, thanks for all the awesome work chr and other devs. CHDK is great. :)

DRYOS version 2.3, release #0023
the same as for a720 btw .... so the only difference is the encoding
