The second issue is that theres no way to make RAW(DNG) visible via USB. But "PS.FI2" file IS visible and annoying as well
This is how it works on all CHDK on all cameras.  The PC software only recognizes certain file extensions and DNG is not one of them.  This has nothing to do with the software running on the camera and so can't be "fixed" by CHDK.

the third issue is that all CHDK icons and information are atop so as camera ones. And we've got a heap of useless garbage at one side of the display and the only way to fix it is turn off all chdk info.
You can individually enable and disable the CHDK icons on the OSD settings menu and you can use the OSD Layout Editor to change their position on the screen.

I'm afraid this isn't correct. Which files are visible over standard PTP is controlled by the camera, on some old cameras, a way was found to make it present DNG as a valid extension. On those cameras, PC software has not trouble seeing .DNG files and downloading them. However, the functions etc required to do this have not been found on any recent cameras.

As an alternative, you can try to find an prefix/extension combination which is acceptable to the camera, and rename the files after downloading. Some notes here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=2045.msg18862#msg18862
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Hi
there's one feature I hope CHDK can add.... it's the stupid  built-in 3 stage flash.
on manual, the camera only allows for 3 levels of flash strength\duration... this is very limiting since I find myself needing 1.5 or 2.5
nowadays I'm too poor to buy external flash... so, can more sophisticated flash control be added to CHDK?  ::)
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

my eye: Canon PowerShot SX40 HS :)

Might be possible to do something like that.  Here's a thread on something close - I've been playing with it a little bit lately.

Lots of people use 8G cards or larger.  Did you follow the instructions here : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card and in particular here : http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card#For_cameras_released_after_2010_:

You'll need to format your card as FAT32 - the sx40 was release in 2011 and will boot from a FAT32 card.

SX40 HS MD SSS(motion detection speed,script,settings)
« Reply #197 on: 08 / October / 2012, 11:27:09 »
Hi, First of all Thumbs up to CHDK for giving us the ADDED functionality and opportunity to use our camera to its full extent.

Secondly, what i am trying to do is to know what script, settings sx40 users are using to achieve good MD speeds, and what speed. cause i have been reading every page of every thread about MD but it dosent seems to give me enough speed to take a pic of a lightning bolt or a car at speed of 60kmph.
i have tried using ISO400, MF, Raw(with Dark Frame Subtraction Off), AWB off, bracketing off, single shot mode, etc. the only setting which got me close is decreasing my image quality to M2( or lower). which is taking all the fun out of it. i got 1.5-1 second on full quality image and 1-0.6 second on M2 quality.

Scripts i have used with settings:-
UBASIC/Scripts: Multipurpose Motion Detectionhttp://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/UBASIC/Scripts:_Multipurpose_Motion_Detection
Shot =0
Continuous shoot = 0,1
Threshold = 10,20,40
Compare Interval ms = 5,10
Compare Interval s = 0
Begin Delay = 1,2
Pix step = 1,5,10,20
Columns/Rows = 2/2,3/3,4/4
Dead frame = 0

and
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/UBASIC/Scripts:Lightning_script_--_Fudgey
with similar settings as above.
now i dont know much about modifying script but i can fix some odds and ends to get some output.

basically what i am trying to know is "is my camera capable of better results or not"?
if somebody got better results some how please share it. it will be very helpfull. thanks

i started a new thread but they asked me to post my problem here..

I installed CHDK for my SX40 in April, and was wondering if any new features have been added in the meantime. However, as far as I understand, you can only use the port corresponding to your original firmware version. Mine is 1.00F, and I see that the current CHDK version is 1.1.0 (#2205) - is this likely to bring anything new, or would I first have to get an update for the official Canon firmware (of which there has been none for the past year!) in order to make use of more recent CHDK features?

Many thanks for any help!

You are confusing the firmware version of your camera with the CHDK version.  They are two different pieces of software that each have their own version number.

What you want to do is look here :

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Downloads

for CHDK version 1.1.0 (#2205)  for the SX40 with firmware version 1.00F.

And if you want the newest features,  you really need to look here :
