finding firmware revision - attempt to simplify it for new users

one of the hurdles that a new user faces when trying out chdk is figuring out what version firmware they have. yet for about 1/3 of supported cameras, only one firmware version is supported or mentioned. are there other firmware versions for these cameras that are unsupported by chdk?

if only one firmware version is listed for your camera, you can be reasonably certain that it will work for your camera, correct?

Depends what you mean by "reasonably". It's true in a lot of cases, but there are some cameras that have unsupported sub versions, and there could always be previously unknown versions.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
