And how do you get the platform number then?
Connect the camera to a Linux system, look to the number with lsusb, its part #2 of the USB device ID
(e.g. 04a9:318d for the SX10)
Are you sure that what is shown here is the same as the pid ? When I recently checked in the a2000 port it what was listed as the USB id was different than the pid. But that could have been human error somewhere.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

It's the P-ID on all my cams, the SD400, SD870 and the SX10; 31e5 for the SD980 sounds also plausible...would be nice if others would have a look & report...

Great, it worked and booted (although no LED blinking, so I need to find the LED addresses).
So the version is correct. Thanks fe50 for your help.

Yeah looks like it is correct for my a540.

To be a bit more precise on this, P-ID vs. USB device ID:

The USB device ID normally contain the camera's P-ID,
but the reported number may vary dependend on the camera's connection mode.

It looks like the P-ID is reported in the USB device ID always when the camera is
connected in PTP mode; on some older Powershots with mass storage
support or with other additional USB protocols the USB ID number may be different
when the camera is connected in one of this modes.

I've got a new SD980 yesterday.
I used CHDK on my old A610, which made it awesome.

Any way I can help with advancing a port to the SD980?

It depends. Do you have any hardware or software skills?

Has anyone figured out how to get the firmware version of the SD980 yet? I'm trying to get CHDK working and I have not been able to get the "firmware update..." menu option to display. When I try to make a bootable SD card the camera does not turn on at all, so I figured that my firmware version might be off, but I can't find it. Help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
