ok, i loaded up v 1.1 build 2238.  Thank you for the option to change the <ALT> button.

OSD layout editor works.

Haven't tried the DSG save yet.

Stick with 1.1 for now - there are some bugs in 1.2 that need to be sorted out.

Let us know how the DNG files work out.

Phil.
CHDK ports:
  sx30is (1.00c, 1.00h, 1.00l, 1.00n & 1.00p)

  sx130is (1.01d & 1.01f)
  ixus310hs (1.00a & 1.01a)
  sx40hs (1.00d, 1.00g & 1.00i)
  g1x (1.00e, 1.00f & 1.00g)

ok, DNG saves in 1.1 shows the same problems as in 1.2, plus sometimes instead of
getting a corrupted version of the previous shot, i get black DNG files with nothing in them.
File size is still the same, just a black image.

So far i've tried shooting regular shots and time exposures on a tripod.  Same thing problem with both.

Which firmware version do you have?

I can't reproduce this on mine which is version 1.00f; but it could be a problem in the code for one of the other versions.

Phil.

Edit: I found an error in the code for firmware version 1.00g. If your camera has this version then try CHDK 1.1 revision 2248 or later (should be on the autobuild server in a few hours).

Indeed, my cam has firmware version 1.00g

i'll download this build and give it a go.  i'm apologetic abt how laggy i'm with testing; just not a lot of time.

Thank you Phil.  Words are inadequate at expressing how i appreciate your help and response.

i like this cam.  Perhaps not enuf to use superglue to attach it to my hand, but certainly enuf to do it with duct tape.

I can't get the firmware report on my G1X. I started by formatting a card in the camera. Then I added an empty ver.req file. When it is powered up in playback mode, the "no image" screen displays. When I hold FUNC/SET and then press DISP, nothing happens. I renamed the ver.req file to vers.req: same result.  ;)

At this point there were no files or folders on the card; the DCIM folder seems to be created when the first picture is taken. Trying again after an picture had been taken had the same result -- no firmware report.

I reset the camera to the default settings. Same result.

I had no trouble following the instructions and installing CHDK on my A620, but now I feel like a dummy.

Save yourself some trouble and just use  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/ACID

After that,  you probably want to go here :  http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Prepare_your_SD_card

Worked like a charm. I am now exploring CHDK on my G1X.

I found elsewhere on the forum that the G1X apparently does not support either ver.req or vers.req, so ACID was not only the easiest, but perhaps the only, way to determine the firmware version.

I used the install firmware versions until one works method.
EOS-M3_120f / SX50_100b / SX260_101a / G1X_100g / D20_100b

I know you are probably just kidding around here,  but the problem with that method for someone new to CHDK is determining if the camera does not boot CHDK because they are using the wrong firmware version or if they have done something else wrong.
