Reformat to FAT32 SD Cards larger than 32GB?

Hi

Inherited a Canon A570 and purchased a 64GB SD Card but it does not work with this camera.

Did some checking and seems you can make SD Cards over 32GB work if reformat to FAT32.

Searched the Forum using reformat to FAT32 and got 5 hits but none were how to reformat to FAT32 SD Cards  larger than 32GB.

Any Suggestions?

Thanks

You need a special program for FAT32 on cards > 32GB: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=7915.msg83517#msg83517
But I'm not sure if a 64GB card will generally work with the A570.

Because the A570 is an old camera, autobooting CHDK from a card bigger than 4GB requires two partitions - a small FAT16 one holding DISKBOOT.BIN and a large FAT32 one holding photos and CHDK scripts etc. I'm not sure if my STICK program will successfully do the job of formatting two partitions on a 64GB card.

You can of course use the firmware update method with a single FAT32 partition, but it's not as convenient as autobooting since you have to do the update every time you want to run CHDK.

Hi msl,

Thanks for the link!  DownLoaded "guiformat.exe".  Agree with Geoff this utility works great!

"But I'm not sure if a 64GB card will generally work with the A570."  To date, no problems.

Hi zeno,

"Because the A570 is an old camera, autobooting CHDK from a card bigger than 4GB requires two partitions - a small FAT16 one holding DISKBOOT.BIN and a large FAT32 one holding photos and CHDK scripts etc. I'm not sure if my STICK program will successfully do the job of formatting two partitions on a 64GB card."

Is there anyway I can help?

Hi Genie

If CHDK is working with the 64GB card, how did you format 2 partitions? Did guiformat.exe do that for you?
If so I will add a note to the STICK page telling people to use it.

I presume STICK wouldn't format the card - under the covers STICK uses the operating system to do any necessary formatting, so if Windows won't format a 64GB card, STICK won't be able to either.
