first developers need original firmware dump.

I hope universal dumper will help you.
There is alternative to this method but I strongly suggest you to try universal dumper first.

when dump is available somebody could be able to start CHDK porting

I have tried the udumper methods for this camera with no results.  It appears that something has changed, and this method no longer works.  I am hoping someone with more experience will be able to find a fix for this.

A friend just got this camera today. It's a step up from A570, but no build in sight for it. I explained the process to him... and he kinda thought it's better to wait... :)

What would be the easiest way to get a build done for this model?

The best way? Help out as much as you can in the forums, edit the wikia pages where needed, be visibly active in helping everyone else. Developers might see this and help in return.

Someone I know (I won't name names) set up this whole forum just to one day hope to get CHDK for his camera. It finally worked. Can you do that much? Then you have a chance.

:D

I provided information where I could, in the spirit of open source and "give back someting in return to the community that gave you something".

I am aware that the A570 build was available around a year after it was released, so it should be a bit of time left for A590.

Still, is there any way I can help provide a dump if there isn't any? Or help profiling the test builds for feature detection?

Ok, I got the SDK, did the test compile, all works ok. I'm looking for ways to get the firmware from the camera and I will experiment some of them tomorrow. I haven't found any test build for A590 so far.

udumper does not load for A590IS. I tested the same card with A570IS and it works.

Any ideas (besides using xmas trees)?

I own an A590 IS and tried to help out by attempting udumper.  No results.  The camera does not respond to any diskboot.bin provided.  I would have tried the pre_blinker.rar files if I could have located them.

I was only able to find the firmware version:
Canon PowerShot A590 IS
P-ID:3176 NT D
Firmware Ver GM1.00E
NoError

Now I am at the point where I would like to see the camera hang on any firmware code provided on the SD card.  Is there hope?  What should I try next?

Thanks all.

I get the same firmware version.  In addition, subsequent presses of SET+DISP show this:

Adj Ver.011.002

And pressing again shows this:

IS Firm Ver. 2.06

IS Param Ver. 2.01

I'm at the same point of MightyDorito.  I'd like to see the camera hang on any firmware code on the SD.  I'm happy to try anything out but I've so far looked through the forums and tried all the different diskboot.bin files with no luck.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
