motion detection at night?

I would like to be able increase the motion detection sensitivity to possibly have it still detect in dark conditions.
I wouldn't expect it to detect in pitch darkness, but with some ambient light (moon, streetlights..)

I've played with setting the iso and exposure settings to try to increase the sensitivity, but so far no luck.
I also tried playing with the md thresholds.

I haven't had time to really work on scripting to achieve this, but I wondered if doing
shoot_half
before the md_detect_motion would give it better night vision?

I envisioned a script that would set all the exposure parameters to high
(high iso, long shutter, wide aperture..)
do md_detect_motion,
and then re-set the exposure to 'auto' with a flash to get a good picture.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

motion detector uses Life View Finder data
update rate: 30 frames per second
so exposure of every frame is less than 1/30

I don't think such data can be used for motion detection of small or(and) dark objects

Anyway you can use parameter 4 to save frames to SD card and view them on computer monitor later

Updated: you can use attached program to view saved frames

How do you save "frames" to the SD card with motion detection? I presume that you are talking about motion-detection saving the actual live-view signal frames to the SD card for analysis? (As opposed to standard video or single-shot images).

Parameter 4 on all my documentation is just listed as "timeout interval" (which has never been fully explained), how does that save triggering frames to the SD card?

I meant 14th parameter

parameters-
1 - make immediate shoot,
2 - log debug file,
4 - write frame buffer to SD card

3-....profit!  :D

I'm having the same issue trying to build a night surveillance system. With long shutter speeds at dark the system keeps triggering itself -> when taking a picture it is automatically lengthening the exposure time which means the camera will take longer to reach into standby mode -> OSD is still updating when motion detection is activating -> motion detection is triggered.

Ok, another suggestion then - that motion detection takes into account the time spent keeping the shutter open (and subsequently NR if activated). The reason is that there is a constant specifying the time between MD initializations. Keeping it too low will self-trigger the camera continuously after the first shot is taken. Keeping it 'on the edge' will again self-trigger the camera in insufficient lighting.
