Title: Starting with build 3270 SX260 HS is broken!
Post by: NormanA on 29 / December / 2013, 15:33:30
Starting with build 3270, with CHDK running, video does not work properly and when it does work, it will record for less than a minute and is very jerky.  Prior to this build, I was able to shoot videos of 18 minutes without a problem.  The problem is still in the current build (3282).  If I disable CHDK by moving the lock/unlock button, I can record perfect video, just not when CHDK is running. I'm using build 101a

FYI .. its usually better to report camera specific bugs in the porting thread for the affected camera - in this case : http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=7889.0 (http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=7889.0) - its more likely to be noticed by someone who actually has the camera.

What is the last version that worked?
There have not been any recent changes to CHDK that would cause this as far as I can tell.

Have you changed the video quality override in CHDK?
You may be recording at too high a bit rate for your SD card.

Phil.

3257 is the last one I used where video was shot, and that one worked fine.  The card is a 32GB Sandisk Ultra, which should be fine for recording, and is, as long as CHDK is not running.

I did try to post this under SX260 HS porting, but, could not see a way to start a new subtopic and replying to an unrelated thread didn't seem to be the way to go.

Do you still have that version and can you verify it still works?  I could probably build that one for you if necessary.

Also,  what happens with the current version if you go to the CHDK Settings menu and use the Reset Options to Default.. option prior to shooting?

No big deal - just change the subject line when you add something to the porting thread .

Are you using the 1.3 from http://mighty-hoernsche.de/trunk/ (http://mighty-hoernsche.de/trunk/) or the 1.2 stable builds from http://mighty-hoernsche.de/ (http://mighty-hoernsche.de/) ?

I'm guessing the trunk, since you said 3282. If this is the case, can you check whether it works in the current stable build?

I had changed the video quality to 99 and changed it to 90 and now everything works fine.  Is there an optimum setting that I should be using?  I don't remember what the original setting was, before I changed it.  Thank you, everyone for your suggestions and your help. :D

That video quality setting should have been from 99 to 90, when things started acting right.

The optimum is however high you can set it without causing problems ;) This may vary depending on the scene or the state of the SD card...

If you want stock quality, set video mode to "default". I'm not sure what number corresponds to default quality on when using the override. It was 84 for some cameras, but might vary.
