Been there, done that. Tried with Card locked and unlocked. The bottom of that menu stays the same, Transition. Guess I'll try the other method. Frustrating.

Waterwingz: You suggest using the bootable method, but the steps don't seem that different, I still have to find 'firmware update' in my playback menu, and that is not happening!! ??

Is it possible that we can use zoom lever for manual focusing while shooting..... ::)
it would be great.

Using the zoom lever won't get you any finer control over the manual focus than using the rear dial.
The focus is not continuous; but is stepped, with many more steps at the close end that at the far focus distance.
You can see this if you focus to infinity then step back one notch on the rear dial - the MF distance jumps down a long way. If you focus to the closest focus distance then it takes many turns of the dial to focus out further.

This is the way the camera is built and using the zoom lever won't change it.

Phil.

Question regarding zoom with PTP extension.

I previously had compiled the PTP control programs, phpcam and chdkptp, on my dockstar headless ARM device running debian.  They both worked with the A590IS as I documented in the wiki:

http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Chdkptp_in_headless_linux_Dockstar_-_remote_control
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Ptpcam_in_headless_linux_Dockstar

I am now trying to get this to work with the SX40HS.  I am able to connect with either program, and to shoot and download, but zoom is not working correctly.  For the A590IS, I could do "lua set_zoom(1)" through "lua set_zoom(7)" and the camera would move from the lowest to the greatest zoom.

On the SX40HS, "lua set_zoom(7)" results in less zoom than "lua set_zoom(1)", and neither provides very much.  Trying numbers greater than 7 has no effect.  I was not able to get ptpcamgui to recognize the camera at all in Windows (Vista), so was not able to try it out with that program, which had helped me before to know the PTP parameters.

My camera has v100I.  I downloaded the chdk software as of March 31.

I imagine that the zoom code will be somewhere in the heart of the chdk code for the SX40HS port.  How would I even begin to look for what would need to be changed to make this work?

I think you want to start with trunk/platform/generic/wrappers.c and trunk/platform/generic/shooting.c

I have not seen anything specific to CHDK that would support this.  Probably because you can't change the basic laws of physics - the camera's flash circuitry needs time to charge between each flash operation.  Large flash units for DSLR cameras that control the length of each flash burst might be capable of taking many shots but the ones on my most P&S cameras pretty much discharge completely on each shot and need a recharge interval.

Need to delete by separate type picture!
Please advice refer to my SX40hs at firmware number SX40hs-100i-1.0.0-1791-full_BETA.  How to do if I want to delete some pictures directly by use “Erase-button” and then at display will show separate by type of picture that like --> Erase only JPG file , Erase only RAW file , Erase both JPG and RAW file ( If I don’t want use function “RAW develop”).  On last month this function erase is work but now does not operate. How to set my camera like that?
