Has anyone successfully compiled chdkptp on OS X? There is a README-OSX.TXT
file in the distro that briefly outlines how to do it, but I'm wondering if someone has actually tried it and succeeded.

I don't know about building, but this post from philmoz suggests that it might not be able to access the camera under 10.11 https://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=12133.msg124655#msg124655

Note that the github you linked is some random fork I know nothing about. The official source is in the assembla project https://app.assembla.com/spaces/chdkptp/wiki

That thread indicates that the guy gave up because he couldn't stop the PTPCamera app from opening when the camera is plugged in to the USB port. He switched to a Debian VM to build and run it from.
